Hello,
I'm 23 years old, for the past year after i had my mirena taken out my periods became irregular, I've never had these problems before hand. I get a period for two weeks with brown discharge following the period, sometimes there over a month late. My dr recently prescribed me the generic version of provera 10 mg 1x a day and instructed that I take it at nighttime. My concern is that I am a smoker (trying to quit) and wasn't aware of the possible effects smoking could cause with this medication. Has anyone else smoked while taking this medication and what were there out comes thanks!

What can I do next?

The risk is thought to be very small for smokers under 35 years old. You should call the nurses' line at your dr's office to get more info. Here is a related post from Planned Parenthood on the risk of taking hormones (which includes birth control and the progesterone pill that you are taking) and on quitting smoking. https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/teens/ask-experts...

You might be interested to know that you faced the same risk for years, whether you knew it or not, when you were smoking with mirena.

Sometimes pharmacists know more about this stuff than doctors. If your doctor wasn't able to provide you with the information when she/he prescribed it, I would call/visit my pharmacist.

Let me get this straight, you are a Smoker and you didn’t know that there are side effects from smoking?

Let’s see, tar, rat poison, carcinogens...

Side of effects = brain damage. Stay on that birth control sweetie.

does your doc know that you're a smoker? isn't she a better source than strangers on the internet?

i'd also ask your pharmacist.
