I've heard some real horror stories about that stuff. Like it goes right through you and you must wear Depends. I'd rather do South Beach any day.
I'm looking for some feedback from moms who have tried Alli. Good and bad please. I'm looking to lose 30 pounds---walking daily but just need a little boost.

I have been using it off and on for about 6mos. and it does work. I have lost about 7lbs. I think that my problem is I forget to take it and then I put the weight back on. My friend lost 20lbs om 6 mos. I have had no side effects but I do not eat really fat food or fastfood.
My aunt has been taking it for some time and is also doing Weight Watchers and has lost 45 lbs in about 9 months. I am planning to begin taking it in the next month myself. I have a mitral valve prolapse in my heart and cannot take several of the other "diet pills".
Good Luck!! =)
I haven't used it but I heard it was prescription only and is not a drug to mess with. It stops the body from absorbing fat which is excreted the normal way but somewhat messy. I'm not sure it is a healthy way to lose weight. It seems to me it would be like any other "diet" people go on, it works until you stop and the weight plus more goes on. This is because when the body is deprived of any one nutrient and then it receives it again it will store it. It is also because the body will begin to metabolise more slowly so as to save energy. Then when we eat normally again, it packs on the pounds due to a slower metabolism than when we started.
The best solution for permanent, meaningful and healthy weight loss is having a clean diet not being on a diet and exercise. I recommend swimming at this time of the year.
Hey, I have heard that it can make your body release things at times that you aren't ready to release them.....Loose bawels. Anyway, I go to the Quick Weight Loss Centers. They monitor you and help you control your diet for real success. Maybe you could look into that.
Many who take Alli have to wear a pad all the time due to anal leakage, especially if you cheat on the diet portion and eat something high in fats. It was pretty embarrasing while on it one time and going to the pool with my son. I looked like the Exxon Valdese (sp) around me. A girl from Curves was using Alli, and messed herself during the workout. If you do not mind the leakage, go for it. It works well besides that.
ayayayay.... i just read this post because i did not know what alli was. sounds HORRIBLE!!!! remember, if you have more muscle, your metabolism will be more efficient. you can get this in so many forms, so if lifting weights is not your thing, try yoga (lots of strengthening, full body) or pilates, or whatever. there are so many products that "work", only to find out later that they are toxic. i teach yoga myself, but in a private situation, but i can tell you of some great teachers, if you are interested. or if you do like the weights idea, the ymca has some great classes. let me know-
Okay, Ladies!
I previously posted about the patch I've been wearing and many of you asked for an update.
In 5wks I've lost 12lbs and several inches. I'm now fitting into some really old clothes. My "skinny" jeans don't fit me anymore. I had one heck of a time finding something to wear the other night. I'm now wearing clothes I haven't worn in 3yrs! That's a year before I had my little guy!
Last night I went to an open house for little one's school. As usual, I was running a little late and I was running to make it to the classroom. A teacher, whom I don't really know, stopped me in the hall. She said I looked like I'd lost a "ton" of weight. I told her I'd only lost 12lbs, but she said it looked like I'd lost much more. I last saw her in May.
So, is the patch working? YES!!! I love it! I have plenty of energy during the day, but I sleep like a log at night. I'm still are work in progress. I've seen my friend lose 45+ lbs. on the patch!
I knew (know) I was fat, but why didn't my friends tell me how bad it was? I know the truth hurts, but I think I might have needed some tough love.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Blessings,
V.
Hi Debra,
I have not used this product, however I wanted to make sure you knew about another option. I run a weight loss program and I have currently lost 25 lbs and everyone I have placed on the program has lost weight. I just turned 50 and I have tried so many things to get the weight off and nothing seemed to work. When I started this program I could not believe the results that I and everyone else is getting! I still want to lose 20 more and I am definitely on my way. Go to the corporate website and check us out, www.idealprotein.com
Its a high protein program and no sugar. The program "rests" your pancreas so it no longer over produces insulin which turns into fat! Your body actually starts going into your stored fat reserves for energy and it gets rid of cellulite also! Its amazing! After checking out the website and if you are interested in a consultation I would be happy to work with you. There is a beginning and an end to the program! I can't tell you how good it feels to have so many people comment on how great I look now and because its high protein, your skin looks great too! I hope to hear from you.

I have seen the good and the bad. My mom took it for a while and she lost weight, my sister took it (she only needed to lose about 20lbs) and couldnt change her eating habits but still lost 10lbs. I am going to try it as soon as I have the money to get some. I know there are yucky parts if you dont eat right but with that you learn to eat better. I dont agreee with some of the people that say if you eat right and exercise then you will lose weight. I've eaten the right foods and exercised for the past 8 years and have not lost any weight. My body is just one of those that refuse to lose any weight. I've even gone to the doctors for it with no success. I am 120lbs over weight. My next step if Alli doesnt work is surgery. The doctors know that I am healthy even though I have 120lbs extra weight and say that I am a great canadate for surgery. I hope that you make the right chose for you and dont go by just what others say. Talk to your doctor since your doctor knows more information about you and your needs.
I wish you the best of luck in your dissision.
I'm currently using it. I have been using it for about two weeks. I am wanting to lose 10 or 15 lbs. It is not so bad if you eat healthy. I haven't had any episodes of having to run to the bathroom or change undergarments like people were telling me. I don't eat really bad either. It's pretty much just helping the fat digest quickly through you body. I like it. No side effects and it's keeping me regular, plus a little more :)There are packets available at the store to read about it too. Hope this helps.

Hi Debra,
I've used it- and going to buy more. Now... I did the "un-recommended" thing and bought the $70 refill bottle instead of the $50 "starter pack" that only contains about a month's worth of pills. To me, that starter pack was a waste of money. You get almost twice as many pills with the refill pack and it's not rocket science to get started on them.
Be careful because if you do eat a crazy fatty meal, you're going to get those "adverse" side effects that they warn about. I mean the gas with oily spotting and the pretty strong stomach cramps that mean you need to get to a rest room and quickly. So if you're going to do it, be smart about what you eat.
I will say this. I only use it when I know I'm going to be eating really bad foods and I WAS on Weight Watchers- so I had already lost some weight. Well I've kind of fallen off the WW wagon, but due to the Alli I haven't gained any weight back.
Good luck!
Has anyone else noticed that everyone who's used Alli has said "if you eat healthy, you won't have any adverse side effects"? Gee, if you eat healthy, you'd lose weight anyway. I'm not trying to be condescending. Please don't take it that way. My friend tried Alli and had the side effects. She's now on Weight Watchers and doing better. If you don't change your lifestyle (and I'm addicted to Fried pickles and fighting right there with you), then the weight is just going to come back. There's no quick cure.
Hi Debra,
I have used Alli and the only problem I had was excessive gas. I didn't have the other side effects of loose bowl movements, etc. In the starter kit they provide guidelines, etc. They recommend that if you're not already, to be eating less fat. I'm thinking of starting up again with it, it's just kind of expensive. I hope my info helps.
I understand where you are coming from. I have to agree that taking them is not the greatest for your body, but if youre going to take them this is what I have heard. Alli has worked with some people-they say it makes them very gassy and may have sudden bathroom urges. They says it does not let the fat digest into your body so it gets rid of it. The people i know have lost 30 pounds on alli. Good Luck and I hope this helps.
Hi Debra,
I have not tried Alli but I do know some of the side effects. (I just took a pharmacology class for nursing school) If you decide to take it you need to be sure to keep up with your fat intake. If you go over a certain amount you will expel it in your stools or have explosive gas as some of the others have stated below. You also need to be aware because you are losing fat in the stool that you need to take a vitamin supplement in addition to eating a well balanced diet.
If you only need to lose 30 pounds, you may want to consider talking with a RD who can help you plan your meals or try weight watchers. It may be more cost effective in the long run.
Good luck to you!
Hi Debra,
I have used Alli and believe it is worth it. Yes, like with any supplement you take there is going to be side effects. I do not recommend taking Alli if you don't plan to eat right and exercise. I lost 17 lbs on Alli over 4 months and have kept it off. I took a break over the summer months because I knew my eating habits would change drastically. I have not gained any of the weight back and I am not eating as well as I should be. As for the side effects, if you listen to your body and eat well you will not have the adverse side effects folks are talking about. I have always been really regular so I am always quite careful to go at the first symptom and not hold it. This has kept me from having any accidents. I would agree that the waste is smelly and disgusting (TMI) but it has helped me to see what meals I should stay away from. Those I thought were healthy meals have shown me other wise. I recommend Weight Watchers, exercise and Alli. It has worked for me and continues to work for me. Those who have never suffered from being overweight all of their lives can't always understand why eating right and exercise aren't the only answer. As with anything, the best advice is to ask questions, seek information and make an informed judgement. If it doesn't go the way you expected you can at least know you made the best decision at the time. Good luck.

Debra--please don't take this like I am being a smarty pants, but there wouldn't be that many drugs on the market for weightloss--over the counter--FDA approved or otherwise--if there was one that genuinely worked and you were able to keep the weight off. I confirmed this with my family doctor---he said the best way for everyone is to do what you can with diet and exercise and then consult your regular doctor--let them know about everything you've tried and what you haven't, why you think you've failed in the past and your plans--ask about prescription weightloss aids and make sure that if prescribed your doctor speaks to you about all possible side-effects and follow-up appointments. I have been on a prescribed medication for 3 months now and have lost about that much---a little slow, but at least I know my health is being monitored by a healthcare professional--and although it's a pain to have to go once a month I feel great!!!! Go see your doctor and voice your concerns--if they are unwilling or tell you there's nothing more you can do and won't any of the tests that a doctor would normally perform to determine if you can take the available aids--ie thyroid, heart, blood pressure, etc., then maybe you need to see another doctor---solely my opinion and my doctor's advice, but I've tried everything out there and nothing worked for me. ***Oh and it helps if you are overweight based on what is recommended by your height--I know a few of my friends wish they could lose a good thirty pounds, but if they did they'd blow away--the doctor will not assist if he/she doesn't feel there would be a benefit--healthwise for prescribing a diet aid***
Hey Debra: Check out the post from 6/23/08 from Irene R... 19 responses. In the topics list, look under Beauty, then diet & weight loss.
I have had friends who took it and quickly got off of it. The embarrassing side effects were the number one reason. Loose bowels, staining, smell etc. Just gross is what they told me. They did lose weight but a little at a time. Do high protein, low carbs. My Dr. had me eat meat, fish, chicken etc. cooked anyway I wanted it, I had to not eat corn, breads, pasta, rice, potatos, sweets and I lost so much weight so fast I dropped 3 dress sizes in less than 3 months. He had to put me back on 1/2 cups of rice, pasta etc. because I was losing so much weight so quickly, but it truly worked. What I did like about it was I would have a steak or chicken breast (no measuring thank goodness) and a salad (oil based salad dressings were better for the diet) I ate more vegetables and it just came off and I wasn't even exercising. Of course I did treat myself once a week with something like a roll or a piece of candy because you still have to live a little. My husband did the Sugar Busters diet which is like the high protein, low carb but in that case he ate nothing white and I believe anything grown above ground if I am not mistaken. Check out the book at the book store or library. He lost 65 lbs. in 2 1/2 months. I also like it because I was not having to measure and it was so easy to remember what note to eat vs. amounts, weights, ready labels etc. Good luck to you on your journey.
ACK!!!! Don't use it! It is not the way to go! It is like taking a pill of grease to make you use the bathroom. GROSS! Do a weight watchers program instead or something like that.( Jenny Craig)..anything that makes you accountable for what you are sticking in your mouth. You need to change your life style of eating & exercise..it's truly the only way to go. (Sorry) You can not take a pill to shed the weight. Reality check. Good luck. I'm right there with ya. Done it, doing it, it never ends.
Google this - do some research - read the package. The original package from ALLi said to carry an extra pair of clothing with you, it is know to produce "explosive" farts expelling liquid at the same time. I'd be careful. A friend of mine bought this when it first came out and it was not pleasant.
I used alli, and when I can afford it will go back on it. Yes, if you eat too much fat, you will have an episode. It is orange greasy leakage. But that teaches you what you are not supposed to eat. Before you start alli, read what it says, and start watching how many fat grams you are allowed. I was only allowed 12 fat grams per meal. That's not alot, but I also lost 20 pounds doing this. My only regret is that I didn't excercise while I was on it. I will go back on it, because it really helped me. I have kept the weight off, but would like to lose more, and it seems even though I am watching what I eat, I am not losing it neither. Good luck.
There are a lot of women on here, that says its gross and disgusting, but have never been on it. My advice is if you want to try it, then try it. You will be the only one that knows for sure if it will work for you.
Never used it before, but when I did some reading about it, found that it was horrible sort of speak. It makes you go unexpectedly if you know what I mean and sometimes you can't hold it. This is what I got from some testimoniels when looking into it.
