We used Clomid, and I didn't have any side effects. We got pregnant (twins!) with the 2nd round of treatment.

After a few months of testing, I just found out that I have very low progesterone and my doctor wants me to start taking Clomid tomorrow. Have any of you taken Clomid, and what were the side effects like (and was weight gain one of them)? Also, do any of you have low progesterone, and if so, how were you treated for it? My dr. said that I'm probably not ovulating because my progesterone levels were too low to pop an egg out and the Clomid will help remedy that...
I'm also concerned about the Clomid drying up any fertile-quality cervical fluid during my fertile phase - is there anything I can do to prevent this side-effect from occuring while taking the Clomid that I need? Also, do the side effects only happen during the 5 days you take the pills, or for the entire month???
Thanks,
M.

I tried clomid when trying for our first. I was the same way. When I went off the pill I never ovulated. I tried the clomid and was on the maximum dosage and I still was having no luck. I did not have any side effects with it. I do suggest that if you do try the clomid, and I say go for it, if you don't have any luck with in three months I would move on to a fertility specialsit. As soon as I went to a specialist I found out that I have PCOS and then proceded to have to take injectable hormones to regulate. I don't like it when people say dr. don't know what they are doing. Ob's can only go so far and then you HAVE to move on to a specialist. I got pregnant the first time with the injectables. And then when trying to get pregnant with my second we went straight to the specialist. As for the drying of the CM, there is something called pre-seed that you should ask your Dr about. It is sort of a lubricant that helps with the CM. If you want any other info or if you have any other questions don't hesitate to e-mail me.
I have taken clomid all three times I have gotten pregnant.
All 3 times it took me three tries...I was up to 150 mg before it actually worked, the dr. started me at 50 and went up by 50 each time.
The Clomid makes you ovulate and then it is pretty much done working from what I understood. I never noticed any side effects at all. It worked great for me. I hope that it works for you as well!
Good Luck!

I too was not ovulating after years of being on BC. They put me on a progesterone, to help me get my period, and then when that wasn't working, they put me on clomid, I got pregnant on the first round. Oh, I experienced no side affects. But that didn't matter to me, I wanted the baby more than anything. I had to take the progesterone, then get my period, then take the clomid and then make sure we were "together" days 12-16 after my period. I believe that is how it worked. If you need more info please pm me. Good Luck.
I gained about 5 lbs during the 5 months while I was on clomid and I'm not sure if it was the clomid or just the stress that I was under. I conceived one child no problem and then tried for a year and a half w/no success, was put on clomid for low progesterone and had an hsg that pushed open my tubes. I still have not been successful and during the days I took clomid I had brown spotting and low back pain. Right now my husband and I are taking a break from the clomid because it has been unsuccesful so far for me. I did not however do the trigger shot w/it because I was always producing 3-5 mature follicles and my chances for multiples w/the trigger shot were pretty high. I also had no problems w/cervical mucus.
I took clomid for one month and got pregnant the first month. I did use over the counter ovulation kits to make sure I was ovulating and it did work.
I had no side effects with the clomid.
Good Luck!

I don't know about the side effects of Clomid, but I assume your Dr. discussed the chances of a multiple pregnancy from taking it. My sister-in-law and one of my co-workers both had quadruplets, and I know of several sets of twins and triplets resulting from it. Just something to think about.
M.,
I got pregnant with both my boys taking Clomid. My first son I was on it for 2 months and my second son it was only 1 month. I was on 50mg. I had no problem with dryness or side effects since I was only it for a short time. I read that if you take Clomid you should get pregnant within 4-5 months (if that is what they think the problem is). You shouldn't be on it for long amounts of time (say a year). I had the same diagnosis-low progesterone. I guess they say you should have a 12 or higher to get pregnant. I was at a 9. So the Clomid gave me just what I needed to boost my levels. The crazy thing is I am currently 20 weeks pregnant and I conceived without Clomid-go figure??????? Good luck and go clomid!

I have not taken clomid, but I have taken projesterone. I took suppository form and it's a bit of a pain, but I hear shots are worse.
I have heard of mild nausea and emotional reactions, I am unsure of the timing.
Have you read the book 'Taking Charge Of Your Fertility'? It is great for information about your cycle and everything that goes along with it. Most importantly for you, it lists items that can be used to replace cervical fluid-one of which is egg whites, another is something you can buy. I highly recommend the book for all the knowledge it gives.
Good luck!!!

There is a wonderful natural progesterone cream that is bio-identical to your own. It is not synthetic and doesn't have side effects like a medication has. Your body needs a balance of progesterone and estrogen to keep it in sync and it really doesn't know what to do with synthetics. This has been available for over 28 years and is safe and has helped thousands of women regulate themselves, not to mention help those with menopause and irregular periods. It is all about balance, M.. Many OB's don't know or understand this. They are updated by the pharmaceutical reps who manufacture the pills, etc. that they want us to buy. Doctors are not taught about natural hormone replacement, yet it is on the internet, written in books (See Dr. John Lee - a pioneer in this area) and in many holistic medical facilities. You DON'T need to take chances or suffer side effects.
I would be more than happy to share information with you if you would like to further investigate this. It is a healthier option and one that works! Best of luck to you. It's your choice and your body. Best of luck to you!

M.,
For my first pregnancy I was put on Clomid for just one 5 day does, and then my OB did an IUI. I got pregnant with that procedure.
For my second pregnancy we did Clomid again. We did not do the IUI this time, but I got pregnant within the first month. The only side effect I had with the second time was twins.
Good luck.
Be warned. I had a friend that went on it for the same reason - she then had TWINS... there was a third that died in utero-and passed on its own. The clomid may release more eggs each period... Good luck.
Hi M.,
I took one 5 day dose of clomid & got preganat right away! I don't remember any side effects at all!! My doctor told me that I would have to take clomid everytime that I wanted to get pregnant & that I couldn't ovulate on my own but 7 1/2 months after giving birth to my first child, I was already pregnant with my second without any kind of fertility drugs.
That was my experience with clomid.

Hi M.,
I've taken Clomid more months than I care to remember and I never noticed any side effects. As for the low progesterone I take two pills of Prometrium a day starting a few days after ovulation to help keep my levels up. The pills are available by prescription and work really well for me, except they make me break out. I would not recommend any over the counter progesterone creams. I tried those and I think it messed my hormones up more. It's better to have a doctor dose you. I hope this helps!

Hi M.,
I took clomid several times and got prenant twice (miscarried on the first) and now have a beautiful 2 year old girl. I have PCOS and a lazy ovary and the clomid helped. The second child came all on his own because sometimes when you have a baby it straightens things out in your body even though the dr. told me I would always have to use fertility. They also did it by insemination. I noticed while taking the Clomid that I would get hot flashes, and every month I had to take them again the hot flashes were more frequent and severe. I was on the highest dosage which I think was 200 mg. I hope this helps.

I took Chlomid after trying to get pregnant for 18 months. Our first month gave us a positive ovulation, but no pregnancy. Our second month of taking it gave us no positive ovulation, but ironically, we got pregnant. I did not have any side effects whatsoever, but being on it for only 2 months (my doctor would not let me take it for more than 3 months anyway) may be the reason. I ended up with a single birth, the rate of multiples on chlomid is about 10%. Everything since then is bliss!
I had just gone to the doctor last month after two years of trying to conceive. I too found out that I had a low progesterone level and was probably not ovulating. I was supposed to start clomid on my next cycle, but crazy enough, I never got my period because it turned out that I WAS finally pregnant. I am on a progesterone supplement and have not noticed any side effects as of yet. As far as the cervical fluid, do try the preseed. That was the only thing I did do differently this past month and it must have worked. I did a lot of research on the internet about Clomid, and many women have said that they used the preseed lubricant to help with drying out. Good Luck!
