Anyone Gotten a Crib Tent to Work with a Convertible Crib?

As of yesterday, my 17 month old son is an escape artist. Crib is on the lowest mattress setting, bumper has been removed and yet he still escapes. I was about to buy a crib tent but now see that people say it doesn't work with my crib (higher in back than front with thick sides).

Has anyone been able to get it to work? I am at a loss about what to do since he is NOT ready for a toddler bed (i.e. has a very hard time sleeping so being able to get out easier does not help).

Thanks in advance!

S.

So What Happened?

Thank you for that link. It looks so ridiculous but I may just have to give it a try this weekend. Now to find a tent in stock by me - another challenge as most places I have called are out of stock :-(

I put him in the crib and asked him to show me how he gets out. He climbs over the sides so no preventing that. We have a table on the side of the crib and he uses that to get down. I'd move that out of there HOPING that he would then be too scared to get out without that, but I then take the risk he would still do it and hurt himself with a longer drop.

He is a HORRIBLE sleeper as it is because all he wants is to be attached to mommy all night. Even before he was climbing out he was still not sleeping through the night.

I can't convert to a toddler bed as there is NO WAY he would ever stay in it or get any kind of sleep. We are currently in a loft and it is just such a bad situation...compound that with the fact we are trying to sell and there is only so much I can do to his room :-(

However, all I truly care about is his safety, but that includes protecting his sleep. So we ordered the crib tent. He's going to be soooo mad at me! Stubborn little fella

they sell one on amazon.com that is for pack and plays, it works GREAT.

I also had the regular crib tent and it worked on my crib which was an IKEA one - I can't imagine a crib it wouldn't have worked on honestly.

Just put him in a toddler bed or a regular bed. My son was in a toddler bed by 12 months and did well. if you are worried about him wandering the house, then gate his bedroom door, otherwise rather than worrying about him getting hurt climbing out of the crib, just convert the bed.

We were in the same position. We ended up completely dropping our daughter's bed to the floor since the railing went that far down. She was like that until she was 2 1/2 and we moved to a toddler bed. It really did help.

Hi S., As a mom of 4, the oldest is going to be 33 Monday !!!! The youngest is 19. Your question brought a memory to me.
If you can secure your little guys room/space, with a safety gate, etc, make sure there are no exposed plug ins...toys he could get hurt on .....
Just lower the side of the crib and "teach" him how to safely climb out.
My biggest fear was not that the kids would get out , but that they would fall out trying and get hurt that way.
Teach him how to "hang on tight" . He's doing it anyway so he may as well do it so he doesn't get hurt.
All my old Aunties and my mom said when a kid starts climbing out of the crib , there is no stopping them so you may as well accept it as part of his growing up. Just make sure he can't leave his room if he does climb out. If you have space to add a toddler bed maybe you could teach him after he climbs out that he can "climb in" to his new bed to sleep with his friends (Teddys, blankies, ets) Some kids just don't want to be "behind bars" sooner than others.
Good luck !
Just a thought, if he's escaping during the night, what wakes him up? Wet? Chilly? I used to "double diaper" my kids with disposable diapers at night. We put the first one on.. ripped a hole in the front of the plastic lining and then put another diaper over the top. Any pee went right through the rip into the outside diaper and the kids never felt any wetness .Not even stay dry linings worked as well as this. Happy thanksgiving!

We were able to use it with our crib. I'm not sure exactly what my husband did (I know he somehow slid the straps between the bars), but it worked just fine for us. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I wanted you to know if you play with the straps a little you should be able to get it to work. We didn't add anything and I don't think we velcroed the straps to the back of the crib b/c they didn't fit. With the straps on though there was no way the tent was going anywhere.

When I researched crib tents at Amazon.com, I saw some photos posted by a Mom that showed how she was able to use the crib tent on her convertible crib. She posted the following note: "Another modified installation using a piece of 1/2" PVC and some rope. Note the pipe and rope are outside the tent, and therefore, inaccessible by the occupant."

Here's the link:

We LOVE our crib tent -- it's a wonderful solution! I hope this helps.

It's none of my business but I think that woman is insane to have that rig with the bungie cords even in the same room with a toddler, let alone on his bed. Why not just put a mattress on the floor and a gate on the door? Problem solved, no one gets strangled. Seriously, PLEASE do not put cords and ropes around your kid's crib. Especially if he's an escape artist. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

We put the low end of the crib against the wall. It took about 3-4 months for her figure out that she could climb over the sides......Just enough time for me to get used to the idea of big girl bed. Now she is in the big girl bed and doing well.

The crib tent definitely works with a convertible crib. I just put one on my daughter's crib about a month ago and she thinks that it is the coolest thing. I had to move the top of the tent around a bit but it worked fine. No rope or anything else required. I also ordered mine from Amazon.

Can you turn the bed around and have the higher part in the front? Just wondering?

For my son we put him in a sleep sack, we call it his bag. I zip it up the back so it is on backwards so he can't undo it. This helps b/c they can't get their leg over the side of the crib.

Good luck..I know it is hard..remember that every season of their life is short lived and soon you will be on to something else..

You could spin the bed around so the low side is against the wall to hopefully keep the little monkey in!

i wonder if it would be harder for him to get out if you put him in a sleep sack? i still put my 19 month old in one for precisely that reason.
