I was wondering if anyone has ever used Once Upon A Child??? I want to know how it works, and what kind of money you get for your items. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks!

I've only done it once. I like to be a seller at the school resales instead.

You need to make an appointment to take your stuff in there. They go through it and will give you a computer printout of the prices they will offer and you can take them or not.

I found the amount they offer is not great, but I only had baby stuff and boys clothing. I don't know how it works with the girl stuff. A few things I just wouldn't hand over - Diaper Genie and Exersaucer they only wanted to give me $8. That would be fine if they were scummy or had some wear, but I only used the stuff on 1 kid!

The school resales you can name your price. I've found that since the school is getting part of the cut, people are willing to pay a little more. Like you can price blue jeans at $5 or polo shirts at $3. That's not what Once Upon a Child was offering.

I agree with Mary on the school resales. They are also held by churches and clubs - especially mothers of multiples clubs. They are often looking for sellers.

Here is a list of some of the big ones and the contact info:

I went there once to sell and they told me they weren't taking clothes at that time. They said they don't take soft toys or carseats so I got to come home with all the junk I was trying to get rid of. =(

Once Upon a Child in St Charles where I live is now only offering in-store credit, which is not the reason I took stuff there. I wanted the cash! I've had much better luck with Penny Wise in Geneva. It's a consignment store but the quality of what the sell is much much better and you get more for your items.

I had used the OUAC in St. Charles 3 years ago and was given a decent amount of money for the clothing I sold. However, they have since changed owners and management and I have heard that they only offer in-store credit for the clothing.

Ive only been there once and will never go back again. The prices on the clothes were very high for a 2nd hand store. And they offer very little for any clothes you are taking in. I just think the clothes should be much cheaper when they don't pay much for them.
