I have a weird request. I am wondering if anyone has ever been on a tv talk show? And if so what your experiance was? My daughter and I are suppose to fly to New York next week and be guests on the Montell Williams show. They are interested in my very spoiled daughter. At first I thought it sounded cool but now I'm a nervous wreck and having cold feet you could say. I just got the phone call tonight and they want home videos and photographs to their courier by tomorrow and this is very overwhelming but sounds like it could be alot of fun and exciting.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I made up my mind I'm going. I was just wondering if ppl had, had experiances with being on a talk show not their opinion of talk shows. I love Montell and have respect for him. I think his shows are always positive. I would probaly decline any other talk show. Our issue is I spoil my child to much and don't do anything for myself. My life resolves around my child, I always put her first but maybe I've gone overboard.

B., I don't have personal experience, but you should do whatever you think is best. Another person said that all shows are different - I think there are a lot of shows that sensationalize real problems... like spoiled kids. Then there are shows that really try to offer solutions. I think whether or not you should go really depends on what you want to get out of it.

Do you want help with your daughter's behavior, or are you fine with being entertainment? No judgment at all from me, just a question you might want to ask yourself.

Personally, I think Montel has his moments. There are times when he can be incredibly sensitive, but there are times when he could probably give Jerry Springer a run for his money!

If you are looking for help with behavior & still want to go on a talk show, I'd suggest a Dr. Phil-type. If you think it would be kind of fun to go on TV & aren't looking for a whole lot of tips for changing behavior, then go for Montell or a similar.

Be real about it going into it though - these shows are for entertainment and shock value. They are going to paint your daughter in the most horrible of lights, show her at her most terrible moments & likely hold you up as the entire reason she's spoiled. At some point, you will probably look like an idiot... no matter what you say or do during the taping... that's just the magic of editing & the allure of "good TV."

Good luck!

My thoughts from watching Montell is that I WOULD NOT go. I find him insulting and rude to people he does not agree with. He is often shaming rather then helpful. His show doesn't seem to help people with the issues they are discussing on the show, he puts them on display.

If it were me, I wouldn't go.

Sorry, I haven't been on a talk show. BUT I think Montel is one of the best choices out there. I've personally always thought he handles issues with respect, caring and understanding. Even when he doesn't agree with you. I would go - it's an opportunity you may never get again and you could help break the spoiling of your daughter which is hard to do alone.
Best of luck!!

Nevermind. Sorry I re-read your question and changed my answer, and I don't have any personal experience to help you out.

Since you're going - have fun. But you might want to learn to spell Montel correctly first. One "L."

My opinion is that there is a very big difference between talk shoes. I personally would not want to expose my family to the humilitation of being on Montel or Maury or any of those types of shoes.
