Anyone Birthed at Medical City Dallas?

I am concerned about their policy of taking the baby to a nursery. I was told that the do this each morning because the pediatricians find it easier to see them all together in the nursery. To me, this is very lazy as they could just as easily see the baby in the room with their parents.

Also concerned about them taking the baby away immediately after birth to bathe, give shots, etc in the nursery, as opposed to doing it right there with the baby in the room.

Anyone given birth here?

How long did baby stay with you?

Did they do bath or heel poke or anything bedside?

Were you able to have pediatrician come visit baby in room instead of nursery?

What can I do next?

I have twice. They do take they baby to the nursery to do most of that stuff. They did the hearing test in my room, but other than that, she was in the nursery for pediatrician visits and other tests. She was with me during the day, and at night when she was hungry, but could've roomed in at night. (I just had long labors and late births, so needed rest, and was afraid I wouldn't wake up if someone came in and took her.) Oh, and they don't take them away immediately. Both times the baby stayed with me for skin to skin contact and breastfeeding for a few hours. When I got moved to a room, the baby went to the nursery while I got settled in.

Yes! Two children. And I was very happy there. I was most impressed with the nurses who took care of the babies. They seemed to adore my babies and were so loving and sweet with them.

Yes - everything you say about the nursery is true. They left my daughter with me for @ 30 minutes ? after she was born, and then took her to weigh, wash, etc in the nursery. My son, they whisked away immediately because they were worried about him.

Babies went to the nursery every morning to be washed, weighed and looked at by the doctor and were gone @ an hour. The doctor also stopped by the room after visiting the baby and talked with the parents.

Hearing test was done in the mama's room. Almost everything else was done in the nursery during that hour in the morning.

My husband went down to watch the baby in the nursery - see what was going on with the little guy.

HOWEVER, except for the doctor visits in the morning, and the initial washing/weighing/measuring right after delivery, the baby can be with you all the time - all day and all night.

I didnt mind the baby going to the nursery and was happy to have a little bit of time to sleep - once you get out of the hospital and home, by yourself, with the baby 24 hours a day - you will look back longingly at the nursery and all of those wonderful nurses.

I did not, I just gave birth at presby of Dallas, but my aunt just gave birth at med city, and I never heard of them doing all that bedside anywhere, I'm pretty sure somewhere, but I gave birth twice at presby, once in Lancaster, and they took the baby to the nursery, but not immediately, like an hour or so. Same with my aunt at med city. Now they did come get her baby while I was there to go see the pedi, which didn't make sense seeing as how the pedi came in the room before she left... But I think that is normal procedure. But she did tell me I had my baby slot more then she had hers, they did shots, hearing test, and vitals bedside at presby, not at med city.... But they did the bath, pku, and stuff like that in the nursery... Is this your first?
