Hey Moms,

I have a 15 month old and another due in 2 months. I realize to go to the park and to the grocery store that I will need a double stroller. I have a double unbrella stroller which I like because it is light weight, but do I also need a bigger stroller that a car seat can fit in? If so, what brand do you suggest that is not over $200. I have done some research with Target and Babies R Us and when I read the reviews there is almost always moms who love one and another mom who hated the same one! Can any of you give me some advice on this?
Thanks,
T.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much moms for all your advice. It really did help me make up my mind. I went to Target and tried a few out and since I am such a small person, I found that they were all too big and bulky for me to handle by myself, except the sit and stand. I decided to go with that one, because it is even hard on me using a baby sling, or trying to carry a baby in a car seat. I found the sit and stand easy to fold up and easy to move around in the store. I mainly need something to take my babies to the park during the day or to stroll them around the mall. Thanks again for all the advice. I appreciate it.

My kids are also 17 months apart. The baby is 4 months old. Anyways, I have a Graco double stroller with the Graco infant seat. I love it. I would suggest just going and trying them out at the store. That's how we decided on one.

Sometimes for the store, I just put the baby in a baby carrier, and then the older one I put in the cart. I use the stroller for the mall or parks though, and it's nice.

Honestly I wouldn't even bother with a double stroller. I have a 4Yr old girl and a 2Yr old boy. At first I was wondering how it was possible to shop with two but you learn to manage. I hardly ever even used even a regular stroller. As long as your older child can sit in the buckle part of a cart you can set your car seat on the basket. Some even clip to the top of the basket so you can fit more items in your cart. I guess I didn't see the point of a stroller if I was shopping, how do you push a cart and a stroller in walmart?! As soon as you older child is big enough and listens enough you can move him to the big part of the basket and by then your youngest should be sitting fine and can ride in the buckle seat. I would save the extra dough for something else I needed. If you really do want a double stroller check out some consignment stores in your area. We have a great one here. You will be able to get a great deal on one and still save some money. Hope this helps.

My oldest child was 18 months old when I had my second child. We purchased two double strollers, both have their advantages and disadvantages.
The Graco Duo Glider is a big stroller which is really heavy (my husband has to take it in and out of the car), but it is great because the back seat reclines flat so the newborn can lay in there instead of sitting in the carseat. Also, it keeps my older child away from the baby.
The Combi double stroller is light weight and the children sit side by side. This leads to a problem as my daughter is constantly messing with my son. She constantly want's to touch his face. Also, there is not much shade on that stroller, the seats do not fully recline, and the carseat will not fit in.
If you consider getting the Duo Glider, make sure that you have a Graco carseat as others do not fit. I have a Peg Perego carseat and it will not fit in the back of the stroller.

I had a duo glider and it was crazy big - it was awkward and heavy so we got rid of that and got a sit n' stand - best purchase ever. It has an attachment for a baby carrier. At 3 and 4 the kids still will get in there and ride. We bought last year's colors and got a huge discount. I think we bought at babyuniverse.com or something like that.

I have a Graco duo or something like that. It's a 2005 so we've had it a while. I have three boys and they haven't been able to destroy it so that says something. I love it. I have to remove the tray and shade to fit it in our VW Jetta, but now we have a van and it fits fine. It was a little over 200, but that's b/c we got the infant carier with it.

My first was 18 months old when my second was born. We have a side-by-side and I love it because it is easy to fold and light enough for me to get in and out of the trunk by myself. Also, it is easy to steer (I have heard that can be difficult with the front-and-back ones)and doesn't take up much room. You cannot attach a baby seat to it, so you can't use it until the younger one is old enough to sit in it. When he was really little, I would "wear" my little one in the sling and push the older one in the single umbrella stroller and that seemed to work well for me, but I tended not to leave the house by myslef with the both of them much during the first three months anyway.

Now that my older is three, he never wants to be strapped in for very long, so I really want to get a sit-n-stand like other moms have mentioned. Sounds like that may be the way to go to get the most longevity out of a stroller.

Also, I would recommend against bringing a stroller to the grocery store like you mentioned. Any one you choose is going to be difficult to maneuver in that environment. I found the easiest thing was to have my infant in the sling, and the older one in the cart. Then when my infant was old enough to sit, he sat in the front seat of the cart, with my older one riding in the basket (unless I was lucky enough to get a double-seated cart). Ideally, bring daddy with you to the grocery store whenever you can!

My children are 19 months apart & I agree with Mandy. I usually strap my infant to me & put my older on in the cart. Sometimes I put the carseat on the cart & my older child in the basket (this limits space for groceries).

If you do decide to go with a dbl stroller, I agree with going to Babies R Us & trying them out. Most important is to fold them up & PRACTICE LIFTING THEM & SWINGING THEM AROUND like you would taking it in & out of your car. Also, keep in mind how much room this takes up in you car.

Once you decide which suits you best, check out www.craigslist.com. You can usually find great prices for double strollers.

Good luck!

Hi! I had the Graco Duo-Glider for my twins and I LOVED that both the car seats would snap into the stroller. Both the kids loved the front/back until they turned 1. Then the seats were soo close together that the one in the back would always kick the front or better yet start pulling his hair. The kid in the front or would turn around and try to break his neck trying to see what brother was doing...IT WAS HORRIBLE!! Anyways...The first year and as long as the boys were in the infant seats the Graco was G-R-E-A-T..I now have a Maclaren side-by-side and I LOVE it. It is like an umbrella though. I also saw a Peg-Perego that has a 60/40 design that fits a car seat...That might work for you since they are different ages. This is a little more expensive, but I'm not sure you will find a good-quality stroller for under $200. Check e-bay they always have great deals on strollers. Good luck!!

I have 3 1/2 month old twins. We got the Graco Duo Glider and it is fantastic.

You can put the car seats in it, or use it as a regular stroller, with reclined or upright seats. It's not too heavy, and it's easy to open and close. Also, it's very simple to get the carseats in and out.

And, the best part is, it's so easy to handle. When I take my boys shopping, I steer the stroller with one hand and pull the cart behind me.

In case you can't tell, I LOVE it. I would recommend it to anyone. And it's only $140.00 at Target (I'm not sure who else carries it).

I have the sit and stand one that comes from target. I paid $119 for it. I love it. You can attach the infant carseat in the front and the older child can either sit on the bench style seat or stand on a platform. The older child will not be able to take a nap in it though. But I have it and I love it. I originally bought the Eddie Bouer one when my second child was born and it was horrible. It is difficult to turn and my older child who was 1 1/2 at the time alway hated to get in it, but she loved the sit and stand. They are 2 and 3 now and they still love it.

Try testing them out in the store,to see which is more managable for you. What you may find easy to deal with may be a real hassle for someone else. Try opening it up,folding it for storage purposes, adjusting the seats ,etc. That way you'll know exactly what you'll be dealing with. Try putting your child in it too ! Test drive it sort of speak and see how functional it's going to be for your needs ! Good Luck,C. S.

I used the Graco double stroller with two infants and now with two toddlers and I have been happy with it. It's not as expensive as other double strollers and is very sturdy. You can probably find one used on Craigslist.

I was going to say exactly what Cathy said. Test drive them yourself because they are all different. Open and fold them, push them around. Check the locking straps to see if that's easy enough to work. See how to put in the carseat, etc.
I have the Graco one. I can't think of the exact name. If there's a Babies R' Us or Baby Depot (inside the Burlington Coat Factory), those will have a great selection to choose from. Good luck and Congrats!

I suggest that you look into the Consumer Reports - they have the baby book version or you can go online. They have the best recommendations for the safest products.

Dont get the Safety First or now called Eddie Bauer edition that the front seat can either face forward or back. I have it, it LOOKS LIKE THE CADILLAC OF ALL STROLLERS, its not. Very hard to turn, not good for shopping, but you do get a work out trying to manuever it.
