Antibiotics and Pregnant--maybe

Sorry ahead of time for the TMI. On Oct. 10th I began suffering from nausea that did not let up. Considering I have bee trying to get pregnant I tok a test on th 13th which was negative. When the nausea did not stop and was accompanied by back ache, exhaustion, frequent urination, cramps and a heavy feeling to my abdomen I went to see my doc. I saw her on the 20th and she did another test. Still negative. She thought it might be an UTI as it would explain my symptoms. She prescribed generic Macrobid but I wanted to wait until she could confirm the UTI before taking them because, why take antibiotics unless you have to? And yes, on the outside case I was pregnant. She agreed I could wait but really thought it was an UTI. Well on the 23rd I started with a cold that got progressively worse. After spending 2 days in bed and misssing work I looked up Macrobid and found out it was considered safe enough during pregnancy so I figured might as well take it since it might help with the upper respiratory infection too. Well, she finally called me today and says all clear, NO UTI!!! Huh? My symptoms got somewhat better as my cold has improved, but they never fully went away. So I asked if it was possible I could be pregnant but it was just to soon to tell before? My last period was Sept 17th but my periods are irregular. She said come in for a blood test. I can't go in uintil Monday at this point so I'll get a home test today. I have two questions. Should I stop taking the Macrobid? Could it have helped me with the getting better faster or not? I don't want to contribute to any superbugs. Second question is, have any of you ever had a similar experience that resulted in a pregnancy? The conversation with my doc just kinda took me by surprise and threw me off a bit.
Thank you for answering my wacky questions.

What can I do next?

You're probably not pregnant. I had phantom pregnancies before I got pregnant... Symptoms so strong it was impossible that I could not be pregnant. I don't know if our bodies like to practice before the big event, or if the mind-body connection is so powerful that we conceive in our minds and the body just goes along with it. Personally, I would not continue on antibiotics since they create a slippery slope of secondary problems in the body, and since you do not have a known infection. Take probiotics to put your body back in balance... and get the blood test to put your mind at ease.

You have to do what you feel is best. If you are worried that the meds would hurt the baby if you are pregnant, then don't take them. Get in for your blood test asap. That will be your absolute positive answer about pregnancy.
It took my husband and I over 2 years to get pregnant. We tried all sorts of things. The 1 thing that worked the FIRST time we tried it, was the at home ovulation kit...try it. Good luck to you!!!

Hi A.,
Sorry, but I would bet that Cai's right on the money - your body is out of whack for some reason other than pregnancy ;-(
I've been there - I know, it's so hard when you REALLY think you're pregnant. The OTC tests are pretty accurate though (trust me, I've taken ALOT of them over a number of years - all different brands, during various times during my cycle. When I was PG, they told me so, and when I wasn't, they were right too. 100% of the time.)
I'd talk to your doctor about other causes of irregularity, maybe get a blood workup, hormone panel, whatever she suggests. And get your rest, and eat/drink healthy. I'd also suggest seeing an acupuncturist and/or herbalist that specilize in women's health. I can recommend a few leads if you'd like. Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon!
