Hi All,

I am a 33 year old mom of a 3 year old. I am starting to setup a skin care regime for myself. I have dry skin and have laugh lines on my face. I was wondering for my age what's the best anti-aging regime I should pick - The firming type or the ones that deal with fine lines and wrinkles?

I am a little behind in educating myself on this... any help will be appreciated :)

****Edited Tuesdat December 2nd***
Thank you all for taking time to reply to my request. But I feel my questions is still somewhat open as to what is the difference between skin firming products vs fine lines/wrinkles products. I am not looking for a brand name recommendation. Just some knowledge that can help me make decisions. Thanks again.

I know a product line that will do both. There are many many clinical studies proving the effectiveness of it. It reduces lines and firms the skin.
It is the enfuselle skin care line by Shaklee. They have one for dry skin and one for oily skin. I use it myself, and it works great. Their moisturizer is fantastic. Everyone I've ever had try it just raves about it.
Shaklee also has a fantastic anti-aging tonic (grape flavored) that affects aging at the cellular level(which is really where all aging begins). It's endorsed by Dr. David Sinclair who is a top reasearcher on anti-aging from Harvard. He's the one who discovered that resveratrol in red wine helps slow down aging. This product is based on that research. The tonic is called Vivix.
You can find both products at www.shaklee.net/rkklemm

I haven't done a ton of research, I can only tell you I have found an awesome anti-aging regiment that does wonders for me and friends who have used it. It is liquid vitamins for the skin and has dramatic results similar to surgery without the hassle. It is from Shaklee and it is called Enfuselle. I don't think you can get it in any store, but it is available online and through distributors. I would be happy to hook you up with my distributor for some free samples.

I buy Beauticontrol products. Their skincare is phenomenal. I use the cleansing regimine Skinlogics line and so does my mother. I use the acne formula and she uses the Platinum formula for dry skin and skin that acts over 40. The company calls those products maintenance products.

Then as far a prevention products and repair products go those are good as well, but I just use the moisturizing cremes around my eyes. I don't have to money for the whole sha-bang, but I've been told it is very good...especially the new anti-aging serums and cremes.

I joined as a consultant to get the products. I don't do parties unless a friend really wants one....this company sets up stations with products for guests to try on their own. That's the party.

At any rate, I more or less just contact my clients when their products are on sale. (by that I mean the company is offering me a sale and I pass it on to my clients). I do about $100 to $200 in sales each month. Just enough to get my skincare and the makeup I like.

So I would do some research on Beauticontrol or just skincare by googling something like "best skincare products" or "best rated skincare companies". I'm sure Beauticontrol will show up. It really is pretty affordable as long as you stick to skincare...their spa products are expensive...I don't promote those much.

You can shop direct through Beauticontrol.com and it will direct you to a consultant nearby you. Or I think you can just buy direct and they will ship it to you.

I don't pay to have my own site. I just order for my clients. My clients contact me at the first of the month if they think they are needing something and I place an order around the second week of the month. I only charge $1 to $2 for shipping and pass on any sales that come up. I use email to shoot my clients the specials each month and then they contact me before the second week. My first order of the month is always expensive because the company charges me $9 to ship. So the more people I have order the better because I don't have to eat so much in shipping charges.

Okay so that's that. I hope that helps. I was also a late bloomer when it came to skincare. As a matter of fact, I wasn't real sure how to even be a girl until I had a daughter and then signing up with Beauticontrol really educated me.

PS This month it only costs $99 to sign up. You get over $250 in product...skincare set, repair products, spa products, makeup and so on. I think you can join directly through the company if you choose. I don't believe you have to join under someone. Doesn't matter though if you did join under someone. If they don't place orders of $400 or more a month then they don't get any residuals from you.

So again there it is. Good luck!!

Believe me this stuff is counter quality materials for a fraction of the costs. Email me if you want to know more about any particular product. I can let you know if it is worth the money or not. And even direct you to something over the counter that might be better.

Hello - I am an Independent Consultant with Arbonne International and I can answer your question. Aging is 90% of what we do to our skin and 10% the way God made us. Being in the sun, smoking, the environment, and what we put on our skin (ie mineral oil) ages our skin over time. We have a collagen layer under our skin and all of the above coupled with free radicals on the inside break down our collagen layer and over time we get sagging, lines and wrinkles. I say all this to explain that you need both. You need a product that is going to moisturize - not dry your skin (like the 98% of products that have mineral oil in them) and you need a product that will repair the collagen layer under your skin. (Not products with collagen - those don't work - the only way to get collagen in your skin is to inject it!). Arbonne has an amazing Anti-Aging skin care line that does both. It moisturizes your skin and it reverses the signs of aging by helping the cells (in the collagen layer) repair themselves. I can send you a free sample if you like - you can check out my website at www.liveahealthylife.myarbonne.com. You will notice a difference in your skin in three days!

Hi. I'd be happy to give you skincare advice. My name is E.(pronounced Eeva)and I'm a Mary Kay Consultant. I'm 31 and I have a two year old and a 5 month old.
I'm really low maintenance when it comes to my looks, but I love to "glam it up" once in a while. Over the years, I've leaned a lot, and I'd be happy to share what I know with you.
All the products out there can be a bit overwhelming. That's why I was curious about Mary Kay. I met sooo many women with amazing skin in their forties and fifties, and whenever I'd ask what they use, the answer seemed to be Mary Kay A LOT! No joke!
Just pick a high quality brand and as long as it works for you, stick with it.
It is most important to keep your skin protected from the sun and well-hydrated. Don't pay a fortune for those "gimicky" creams. Unfortunately, there is no miracle cream to get rid of wrinkles, but you can prevent future ones.
Also, if you can afford it, get an occasional facial a few times a year. They're amazing, and a great way to pamper yourself!
You can call me anytime with questions at ###-###-#### or e-mail me at ____@____.com or look me up at

http://www.marykay.com/eharrison/default.aspx?tab=home

I'd be happy to set up a free consultation with you or with you and some girlfriends. I've got great deals for the holidays. You can create a holiday wish list for your hubby and have him call me!

I've seen on Oprah and the Doctors that in testing lotions, Oil of Olay is the best working. I have used this product myself for 15 years and have gorgeous skin. Wash your face as usual, rinse with cool water and dab little bits of the creamy
lotion under eyes, at temples, cheek bones, wrinkle or frown lined areas etc. Let soak in, do not rub. Let your skin drink it up. You'll start seeing the difference in a week or two. It's easy to keep up with also so enjoy.

HI M.,

I would recommend you go to the website Skinfo.com. They carry Medical Grade skin care and products. They have a store in the Chicagoland as well that I visit. The website was created and owned by a top Chicagoland Dermatologist that has been featured in many magazines and has won a ton of awards. If you are in Chicagoland area you can see them and they will recommend products for you from various manufacturers, whatever works best for your skin concerns. My skin has never looked better since using a face wash and moisturizer from them. I spent $45.00 total for them but they are concentrated so I have been using them for three months and am just now starting to run low. I'd caution you in invisitng your money in drug store or other products. Good luck.

In trying new lines of products you should give the Arabonne (sp?) line a shot. My friend's mother and sister have both used it and love it. It is sold through independ. cons. kind of like Mary Kay. It is a Swiss formula and seems to be climbing up to be a more widely known line. Also, if you were to treat yourself to something, microdermabrasion is a wonderful way to soften your skin and fine lines. There is no down time for the treatment. It is a deep exfoliation of skin and removes the top layers of dead skin. Check with your local medical spas if you are interested they have specials around the holidays for a series of them usually (thats how you get best results) It maybe something to ask for as a holiday gift! Good luck!!

Hi M.! Don't worry, there is no time like the present! Actually, I don't think it's age that should drive your choice as much as it is the results that you want to attain. If wrinkles are you main concern, then go for an anti-wrinkle cream. Firming and lifting creams are more for women who are concerned about sagging skin, another joy of aging.

I'll tell you my personal favorites are part of the Olay collection. Olay Definity is a great line for anti-wrinkles. And the best part, you can get it right from the drugstore at a fraction of designer beauty prices.

Hope this helps! Happy anti-aging! : )

Hi M.,

You are only 33, yet you are doing the right thing by educating yourself and preventing any future damnage. My advice to you is products that are firming, and protect and reverse possible sun damage. A great eye cream is essential as well. The most important product is a great moisurizer. And of course a face wash for dry skin, do not use soap as it dries your skin out and speeds up the process of aging. who wants that!

I am fifty one years old. I swear to you I have practically no lines anywhere on my face. Moisturize, moisturize, if you have dry skin. I am a big fan of Mary Kay cosmetics, but have tried other products. It looks like there are some Mary Kay consultants here on Mamsource. Actually I could use some myself. You can try over the counter things like Olay, or even some of the cheaper things at the dollar store, but I still back up the Mary Kay product. I don't sell it so you know I am definitely just a fan, not trying to sell it. I tried Bobby somebody or other once but went back to Mary Kay.The whole program is very good.

The best anti-aging products that are guaranteed to work is retinol and sunscreen. Look for a night time cream containing retinol and always use a sunscreen during the day.

I would recommend Mary Kay or Shaklee. They both do not test their products on animals, and Olay, made by P&G, does.

Hi M.-
I also have a wonderful product for your skin care needs. It is a brand new company just launched in the United States in Sept. '08 called Votre Vu. It is a full line of spa quality skin care at affordable prices. It is a plant based product originated in France. A small family-owned laboratory outside of France that has been making and perfecting skin care products for over 80 years. Their products are packed full of Vitamin A ( the #1 anti-aging vitamin). Because it is a small laboratory vs. mass production they make small batches perfected with the best ingredients. They have a full line of skin care products and even two products exclusive to the industry. Snapdragon is their Beauty Drink--packed with vitamins and anti-aging ingredients. Beauty from the inside out. Also, Les Sorbet-a FROZEN anti-aging serum that will re-energize all of the cells in your face. They have the most amazing website and it has video links that you can watch. I will be more than happy to send you some samples of the product if you'd like. My website is www.votrevu.com/kristier and you can contact me through the website or my phone #'s are on there.
Good for you for wanting to take care of your skin :)

M., Anti-aging begins when we turn 30...our body actually starts to reverse itself at this point in our lives. There are a few things to realize, having a good skin care regimen is about 40% of the battle, the other is diet, supplements, sleep and stress. We have to nourish our skin from within our bodies, get at least 7hrs of sleep at night and reduce the stress in our lives. We always notice how our presidents age when they are in office. In Chinese Medicine, facial diagnosis would tell you those smile lines is a sign that the small intestine is stressed (aka leaky gut, digestive issues, etc). It is up to you if you choose to believe it or not. (It is true in my case).

I do specialize in women's health and wellness and do one on one women's wellness consultations, however, if you are interested in skin care, I am actually looking to reduce my Arbonne inventory since I need to make room for storage of my daughter's clothes (who is 16m, they grow fast!). Half of my proceeds I am donating to my friend whose Election Day baby was born with two right ventricles who will need corrective open heart surgery in April. I have an anti-aging kit that I am selling for $150, but retails for $379 (I think) the night time moisturizer sells for $72 alone, so you can see this is a huge savings. I am not making any profit off of this, just to get rid of the inventory and helping my friend in Kansas City. The kit is amazing and works very well, it has a cleanser, toner, a facial lift, serum (think vitamins for your skin) day and night time moisturizer and it comes in a cute gold bag. If you are interested let me know, if we cannot meet I will mail it to you. I also have other items as well.

It's never too young to start really caring for your skin. So many things play into the type of skin we have from stress, to sleep, to what we eat and definitely what we put on our skin. Dry skin should definitely be addressed with a good moisturizer. Any products with mineral oil or alcohol will not help your skin at all! These ingredients only add to your problem!

To tag onto Jasmine's response, we are aging and at your age, the anti-aging products or skin firming products are not necessary. It is for those whose skin has lost or is losing the natural collegan that we have which is a product of the aging process and Mother Nature. Because you have dry skin, you probably can see your lines more visibly. Taking supplements with Omega 3's can help that and your entire body as well! Good vitamins and good skin care products is a must though. Please educate yourself and go onto this website:
www.cosmeticsdatabase.com and plug in any of the brands to see which ones are made with ingredients that are harmful to your health. You'll be surprised. I use 100% certified organic products for health and skincare. Whole food nutrition does the body good both inside and out. I'd be happy to assist you but know that you are doing the right thing into looking at products and researching them before you buy. Sometimes a well known name or high price doesn't mean that it is necessarily good for you. Love yourself and know that the aging process happens to us all. It's all on how you treat yourself!
