Anyone have an exterminator come in for an ant problem? Are Talstar/and other professionally-sprayed pesticides safe to use while infants are home? any other recommendations?

Hi A.,

I was very concerned about pesticides even before my baby was born, just because I had dogs. I called Orkin and they assured me that what they use is completely safe. I think he adjusted the spray a little when our baby was born so that it was even less harmful. The spray he uses dries quickly (you can see it dry within seconds) and once it dries it's fine. I'm sure that, as with any chemical, it's not ideal to have in the house, but the alternative being the possibility of bugs crawling on my baby while she's sleeping, I can't stomach.

Hope this helps,
C.

I have used Fox Valley Pest Control two years now. It seems we have "slab ants" which live under our Brick Paver Patio. They spray the patio and around the house. The Ants are gone instantly! They guarantee their work. They use safe pesticides, and what is even better, they come in unmarked vans.

Look all around your house and caulk any openings you see. If you watch closely you may be able to find the exact places they are coming in at. We used Orkin for awhile but as soon as we stopped using Orkin they came back. This year I caulked around all the windows and doors outside and bought ant traps from Ace Hardware.I put the traps around the outside of the house so I do not have to worry about the little ones. We are now ant free and it was a lot cheaper than Orkin!!!

we had these big BIG ants. i tried everything and it would work for a while and then they would come back. we caulked, i even went w/ a flash light and night to see where they were coming in!! i am so anti pestcide but i felt unless we wanted to live w/ these ants i had no choice. i called so many different places, most wanted to come in and spray(and was told it was safe ocnce it was dried BUT, i was very hesitant because of my 2 boys and dog and us! chem -wise was the only company that told me not to spray inside and that they would use a gel under the floor board so that no one could get to them except the ants! they also told me it IS a pesticide and all pesticides can be dangerous but they use the least amount and put it where you need it the most. they are also more expensive than others but i thought it was worth my peace of mind! hope this helps!

Raid makes ant traps that have a sticky back so you can put them on the wall above the counter tops(hidden by appliances of course) as well as in the cabinets themselves. they worked rather well for us and since they were up higher the kids could not reach them. Good Luck.
