I forgot to get the milk out of my milk box this morning. So far the highest the temps have been is 36 but it is projected to reach 45 by 4pm. Would you still drink it?

ETA: My milkbox is basically a box made out of particle board painted with the dairy logo with a hinge top. And I dont want any potentially harmful advice. ;-) I have two young children and I would really like a puke free weekend.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We get two deliveries a week one gallon on tuesdays and 2 gallons on Friday since we go through more on the weekends. They also do seasonal eggnog and orange juice and a lot of other things. I really like it (kinda pricy but they dont use hormones etc)

I didn't know people had milk boxes any more!! Awesome! :-) How often does it get delivered? That really is cool! :-) (no pun intended, lol)

As for drinking it...I am kinda leery about that kind of stuff, so I am not the best person to ask :-)

The frigerator temp is 41 degrees so if it was 36 outside, you are more than safe.

As an FYI, our grandparents and great grandparents used to put the milk in the well so the water would keep it cool. The water temperatures in wells average about 59 degrees. They also drank "raw" milk.

Good luck to you and yours. (I have drunk milk left out on the counter overnight and had no ill effects.)

The optimal refrigerator temp is between 35 and 39. If it's in a box that is supposed to keep it cold, it should be fine. (I don't know what a milk box is.)

Honestly, if it gets up to 45 it should fine as long as it isn't kept there for too long. (Your fridge fluctuates depending on how often and how long you leave the fridge open when you get something out of it.)

I would think it's ok since it's been almost freezing out. Try and smell it, then maybe take a small sip. If it's sour, throw out.

Well, if you're going to forget your milk, you picked a good day to do it. :^) A week ago, with the near-summer temperatures, it would have been hopeless.

If you want to give it a try, open the bottle, sniff it, and take a little drink of it yourself. Actually, I'd probably *not* give it the benefit of the doubt. Another gallon of milk costs much less than a visit to the doctor.

I love my milk delivery, too! The dairy's milk tastes so much better than the milk that the store sells.

Sour mik will not hurt you. It tastes horrible but you won't get sick. It should not get warm enough to sour the milk. But get it in the fridge asap. By any chance do you have a neighbor or friend who could put it in the fridge for you?

I would contact the service. They should know regarding their own pasteurization if it's OK or not.

I think that it is OK, but I don't know how many hours we are talking about. I also get home delivery of milk and I just use my cooler with a few ice packs in it, maybe that woud be better in your case too?

I get royal crest too! :) Anyway, I think it will be okay. We are pretty close to castle rock and it is soo cold out! Like others have said open up and sniff and maybe drink a sip. You will know if it has gone bad, but I bet it is okay. Really, it is quite cold out!
