An Alternative to Mineral Make-up That Won't Make Me Break Out?

I absolutely love the look and feel of mineral make-up / foundation (bareMinerals), but it's making me break out all over the place! I suspect it's infusing my pores with a bunch of ultra-fine clay (a.k.a. dirt). Sadly I guess I'm going to have to stop using it. But I don't know what to use in its place? Can anyone recommend a wonderful foundation that won't turn me into a zit-face at age 39?

What can I do next?

Try Clinique.
Their products are hypoallergenic.

There are other things than mineral make up.
You might not even need that.
I don't use any foundation.
Don't need to.
Make up does not have to be "foundation."

When my daughter was breaking out her dermatologist recommended Nutrogeana, Clinique or Estée Lauder. I love the "Double Wear" foundation by Estée Lauder. I stock up when they have a promotion so I typically get free mascara, moisturizer, lipstick etc.

I had a similar experience with BareMinerals but have had much better luck with another brand of mineral make up, Sheer Cover.

It's very similar, but SOMETHING in BareMinerals was clogging my pores in a way this other brand just doesn't.

My advice, if you like the look and feel of mineral make up, is to try another brand and see if you have better luck. Even though they ALL advertise their pureness and lack of fillers, they each have different formulations and you may have a reaction with one and not the other.

I used to use Clinique (still use their powder blush and mascara) but now I use Llancome foundation (teint idol) and have never had a problem. But you might have to try several to see what works with your skin.

Bare Minerals irritates my skin, too. Honestly, I think it may not even so much be the makeup, but the act of "buffing" it into my skin that sends my skin over the edge. Their brushes are horrible, but even using better ones (I have a Sephora Kabuki brush that is softer), my skin still protests mightily. My skin is sooooo sensitive. Ugh.

I really like Lorac foundation. I apply it with a synthetic brush, so a little bit goes a very long way. It doesn't make me break out, and provides light coverage (more, if you apply it heavier).

I have had difficult skin my entire life. I have acne, and oily skin. It has gotten better as I've aged, but I do remember trying bare minerals when it just came out several years ago, and I too broke out, so I stopped using it. Now I'm 30 and I started using it again and it seems to be working. I also use Stilla, liquid foundation, oil free. Like the previous comment before me questioned, make sure it's not another product your using.

I use bb cream and concealer if needed. No true foundation. Do you need lots of coverage? If not, a bb cream or tinted moisturizer might work. I use the brand Boots. (I get mine at Target.) You could also try another mineral brand.

Are you absolutely certain that it's the mineral makeup? What other products are you using on your skin?

Do you also use the "mineral veil" powder over the top of your make-up? I had the same problem, but it stopped when I discontinued the mineral veil and used the bare minerals alone. The mineral veil is cornstarch, which is found in many loose powders, and that ingredient is known to cause break-outs. Good luck.
