So, I will be 44 in June. I got pregnant with my son just before my 39th birthday. We waited until he was a year old to try again. Well, we tried and tried and tried and tried and 6 clomid cycles, 3 IUI cycles and 5 IVF cycles later, we gave up. I have gotten rid of all my maternity clothes and gathered all my son's baby toys and clothing to donate. I decided to take the one pregnancy test I had hanging around. Why not? Period is due Wednesday (today is Monday). So, I take it. And actualy saw the faintest second pink line. This happened when I was pregnant with my son. Totally freaked, as I believe myself to be peri-menopausal, I zoomed to the store and got a test with words. I chugged water to the store and back hoping I would have to pee the second I got home. Well, I took the test and it said I wasn't pregnant. Then, I read the instructions and it said, "avoid excessive fluid intake before testing". So, did I throw the test off with my water guzzling or was the first test just wrong? I'm trying not to be excited, but after 3 years and all that we went through... Please help.
Thank you to everyone for writing. You are wonderful! I only had another digital test and after a sleepless might it told me I wasn't pregnant. There is most definitely a second line on the test I took yesterday so I will buy more today. Keep sending baby dust. I would hope God wouldn't be this cruel. We have been through so much trying to conceive and have NEVER had a test come out positive. Thanks ladies!
Just did a second line test that was positive. 30 minutes later I did a pee and blood test at the doctor.. Their pee test was negative. Am so frustrated. Never has the line test been positive for me except the one time I was pregnant. Not even when I was on fertility drugs and tested early! could the doctors pee test be wrong since I had just gone to the bathroom and tested at home?! I know the blood work will be correct but pray my body and God aren't playing games with me.
I would go to the dollar store and get a bunch of tests. These are the most sensitive ones out there.
The digital 'pregnant' are not very sensitive at all, so if you used a digital I would NOT believe that result.
Well you definitely could be! I know so many women, young and "old" that got pregnant after "giving up" on fertility treatments, etc. I honestly think the stress of wanting to get pregnant actually hinders it somehow. Anyway, just relax, wait a couple of days, and take the test again (this time without drinking lots before you do it). No point taking the test so soon and just getting frustrated if it does indeed say negative - remember, negative results may be wrong if you test too early because it's not picking up the hormone. But a positive test is never wrong!! Good luck !!!!!
Go get a first response that says yes or no and take it the second you feel to have to pee in the morning or if you get up in the middle of the night! Just that first pee of the day! Don't drink a lot of water before hand becuase it will dilute your pee!!! GOOD LUCK...WOULDN"T THAT BE AWESOME FOR YOU :) Please let us know!
Go to the doc and get a blood test or wait a week to do the urine one.

Try again in the morning using the first urine of the day. If it's still kinda hard to read make an appointment with the doctor for next week. That way there is no mistakes.
I didn't use the ones with words - they didn't tell me anything.....
I would go back to the store and buy a tried and true line one - then take your test in the AM when you wake up - that's when the hormones will be strongest.
I would LOVE to tell you that you are pregnant!! As you sound like my husband and I - without the IVF - we decided if we had to do that - God didn't want us to have babies and gave up - this was without having ANY kids!! :) Soooooooo 4 or 5 months later - I thought I was sick - really bad and went to the dr and found out i was preggers!! I SCREAMED - yeah - screamed....

Pee in the morning!!! that is what i was always to believe. It is when you have the most HGC levels in you. not sure how that is the abbrev. Its been a while. Try tomorrow and wednesday if you can afford the tests!! Good luck!! I hope you get good news.
I would wait at least until the day after period is due and then test again with the first morning urine. Good luck
You may have thrown the test off because you diluted your urine. Use your first morning urine, and go with the tests that have the pink lines. The digital ones aren't as sensitive, so since you're so early on, wait to take those.
Always test in the morning. Go get another test and do it in the morning.

Just because you are pre-menopausal, it doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. My doctor told me that most abortions are performed on pre-menopausal women, because they think they can't get pregnant. You can get prego as long as you have your period. You have to go 12 straight months without a period, before you can even think about not being able to get prego. If your first test was done first thing in the morning, it is probably correct. Go get a real blood test from your doctor to make sure.
I'd say get a dollar tree test. They are awesome and only cost a dollar of course :) and test to your hearts content, but yes you did throw the test off and Yes I bet you are preggers. And if so Congrats I bet you will be a wonderful mommy x2 since you want so much!!
I would pretty much bet my next paycheck on "no" but I guess you'll see.

I just wanted to say that I got pregnant with my first at 40 and with my second at 45. It was a little harder getting pregnant with the second.
The same thing happened to me with the pregnancy test. There was just a very faint line. I had been doing so many ovulation tests over the years and, on those, a faint line means a negative, so I just figured I wasn't pregnant. A few days later when my cycle never started, I realized maybe I made a mistake. Later I found out that even the faintest line on a pregnancy test is a positive.
I have heard of false positives once in a while, but I hope yours was just from testing early and not having enough hormones yet.
