hi there, my friend has a 9 ms old baby and he's having a hard time keeping his formula down, it's just not working out for him. my boy's almost 5 so this has been awhile ago since i did this. i never even considered almond milk for my boy, and advised her last night no cows mik til 12 months. i also told her to call his pedi just to make sure and to maybe try sensitive formula.

what do you think? is almond milk okay for a 9 ms old baby who's having trouble w/formula?

thanks for your help :)

What can I do next?

NO NO NO! Almond milk doesn't have enough of ANYTHING in it. They take almonds, yes the nuts that kids can't have until at least 12 months, and grind them, then run water over them until they get enough of the "Milk". One cup of almond milk is equal to 4 almonds.

If the baby is having issues, then she should try a sensitive formula. But, if it is still spitting up after that, then it is probably a milk protein allergy and she may need to go to a hypoallergenic formula like Alimentum or Nutramingen. WIC will pay for these if she needs them and qualifies, it just takes a paper from the doctor. Soy can be very constipating and has a lot of hormones, so my ped. didn't like it and doesn't recommend it.

She needs to do something besides almond milk, rice milk, cow milk, goat milk, etc. Formula is a baby's main food until they read 12 months but many still need it after that first birthday.

No, she needs to find a different formula. Almond milk doesn't have nearly enough nutrition for an infant. She needs to talk to a doctor and/or a nutritionist. Babies do not get their nutrition from solids - it comes from their breastmilk and/or formula. Switching a nine month old to almond milk, or any alternative milk, would be depriving them of necessary fat, calories, and many nutrients.

Both my kids were fine on the sensitive soy based formula. I don't know why people get all weird about it and it does not contain corn syrup.

No baby should be exposed to tree nut based foods until later in life. There are so many allergies that can cause death quickly. Especially when a baby cannot communicated what is happening to them.

If she does not want to go soy, she may look into milk banks or ask her Ped about other alternatives... Non milk/non soy.

No, if the baby is using formula then mom needs to keep baby on formula. There are tons of brands and ingredients out there. BUT they all have vitamins and minerals in them for the baby's growth and development. Regular milk of ANY kind will not supply any of these benefits. It would become just a drink and not a food.

The baby will be old enough in a couple of months to transition to a regular milk but until then she needs to try a different formula.
