Allergy on Holiday

Hi All.
My family and I (who reside abroad now) are in the US on holiday. My 3 YO son developed a facial rash that our doctor said looks like a food allergy (we sent him a pic...via email...).

Is it possible to have a food allergy to something you don't normally have an allergy to at home? I am sure that the milk products here have different stuff in them and the fruit is not washed in restaurants as I do at home (with soap)... Could this be the issue?
I ask, as we don't want it to get worse before the rash gets better. We plan on staying away from milk products and non-peelable fruits.
any other ideas?
as an aside, we accidentally boiled water in the hotel microwave in a paper cup that we later saw was good for only cold water. could chemicals from a plastic cup cause a rash?

Thanks as usual for your good advice.
and please, nothing negative.
Jilly

It could be just about anything...the food itself, a preservative or seasoning on the food, a cleaning product used in your hotel room, something else he came in contact with. To treat the rash, you could try some Benadryl cream or you could seek treatment at a local clinic. Good luck.

I would do all the things that you mentioned, and I would take him to a local on-call medical clinic for a quick look see at the rash to make sure it isn't anything else. They may also be able to prescribe a cream that would work better than benadryl.

It could also be a reaction to different laundry detergent, face soap, etc.

Just be watchful and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

I would take him to a local doc just to look at it. They could probably give
you something for the rash. If you are in a hotel, I would think maybe the
soap or laundry detergent. Could he have been bitten by something. There
are so many things it could be. Just be on the safe side and have it looked
at. Hope you have a great holiday.
