The red ants here have the same venum as bees so it is very likely that she is allergic to them. To help speed the healing process give soack her feet in epson salt.

Okay I could possibly be overreacting but just to be sure.... my 14m daughter got bitten by ants all over her feet yesterday. Last night she started low grade fever, stumbled around a bit and today she has red dots all over her botton and thighs and continued low grade fever. She is not sleeping well and very crabby. Normally if she is allergic to a food she has fever and/or red dots on skin. Could she possible be having a mild reaction to the ant bites or is it just me freaking out?

When I was 3 I got into a pile of red ants. I was rushed to the hosp for a shot of some sort. Ant bites are toxic. Have her checked out before she has serious complications.
I would think that she is having some type of reaction to the bites. You know your daughters body, so I dont think you are freaking out. If you see some thing in wrong, call the doctor. I'm sure he/she will point you in the right way to take care of it. If the redness and fever are not gone by tomorrow I would take her in to the Doctor. I hope every thing goes well and she gets better..
Are you SURE she got bit by ants? The reason I ask is that it sounds like she has hand, foot and mouth disease. I thought my dd got bit by ants too! It loo0ks like ant bites and classicly is small ant bite like marks on the hands, feet, butt and moouth. We had butt and feet only affected for over a week!
We have SEVERE food allergies and I have seen many specialist and all have said that fever is not an allergic response. Check out kidswithfoodallergies.org. This has been a topic there, as well.
I kept thinking my dd was reacting to food with a fever and now I realize she was sick frequently OR teething at the time.
I hope I helped....

Hey J.!
Your post is very important to me because my 3 year old was biten on the foot yesterday and went into anaphylactic shock.
From one red fire ant! She was bitten 4 times on her foot.
Within 15 minutes she was having a lot of trouble breathing.
It was the single most scary situation I have ever been through with her.
I would say take your child to the doctor to look at the bites. Most likely Benedryl (or another antihistamine) will be prescribed.
It doesn't sound like your child had such a severe reaction but I would still call the doctor and see what they say.
We have an appt.first thing Monday morning with an allergist. Due to her severe reaction they are telling me she is probably allergic to bees as well.*sigh*
Anyway -I don't mean to alarm you because it seems your little one may have had a mild reaction but I would still call your doctor.
Take care
no you are not overreacting! my daughter had an allergic reaction to ant bites last year and we had to take her to the doctor. now we have a prescription we have with us all the time to put on her if she gets bitten so it doesn't get any worse. we let our daughter's bites go to far and they became pussy and the whole area was swollen and haves a hives type rash around it. take her in immediately!

I don't think you're freaking out or overreacting. I would take her to the doctor asap!
I hope everything is fine!

Please let us know what came about all this. IF you haven't already taken her in to see a dr. I would. I agree with everyone here that it could be a. reaction to a bite or b. hand, foot and mouth disease. It can be cleared up quick. I don't believe fevers come with allergic reactions though. At least all the things I have read never said that nor have any of the people I have talked to who have had kids have reactions to anything.
One of my twin daughters when she was not even 2 yet was given a cookie and she didn't eat it right away. She sat it down on her little table and left it and found it in her room the next day. Well we didn't know it was the cookie until a day later that cause her to go into anaphalytic shock (sorry can not spell). Her lips first swelled like a bee bit here on the mouth then she started drooling then had projectile vomiting then her tongue swelled and she couldn't breath. She could have DIED! The stupid paramedics cam and looked at her when she just had a swollen mouth and because we didn't know what caused it they were just going to leave. THen as they turned to leave she thru up every where and then panted for air. She was too young and scared to speak for herself. The next day while she and I were in the hospital my mother traced back her steps (she was with her during all this) and found the cookie that had only one little bite out of it. She got the package and it said small cashew pieces. I called her regular ped. and he said that sounds about right. I then had her tested for cashew nut and her skin prick flared up right away. She is fine with peanuts. He said it is probaly just a tree nut allergy for which she may never grow out of. All though she has had honey nut cheerios before then and after (chopped pecans in them). I did eat a lot of cashews while pregnant and that may be a cause also I was told. I built up her allergy to them I guess. He said to just keep all tree nuts out of her reach and get her tested again at a later age. He said to do the same for her identical twin sister. Sorry to go on and on. These things can get real scarry.
