I agree that it could be a DIY job, however, if you don't want to even try, I have a guy that has done work for several of my clients, and is currently in the middle of repairing a leak in my shower this week. He does great work and is reasonable on prices.

Ok, I wouldn't have suggested this 10 years ago, but my husband is a mega "do-it-yourself" person.

Go to Home Depot and talk to them. Take a picture, if that would help, and ask them what you need to do. They can talk you through it or help you find a book with instructions.

You can do this!!!

I agree with others. We DIY at our house.

My hubby......... the numbers man, MBA, financial whiz is a believer in DIY ( if at all possible) and he is good at it.... He installed 4 upgraded toilets in our house this year.

He went to Home Depot in Allen, got specific instructions and instructions are online videos as well. He did all 4 himself and did a better job than a plumber would do because he is so darn picky about everything being 100% perfect.

He has saved up SO much money by being DIY. However, he is not proud when he gets over his head and he will call the pros.

We have used Classic Plumbing in the past for a couple of small jobs and a large job with upgrading, rewiring, etc new hot water heaters. We've always been happy with Classic Plumbing. If you call them, you will get quality work and you will pay a fair price for that quality work. I think our first call for a drain was about $140 and hubby has now since learned how to DIY with the snake!!

This could be a DIY, we have many times. But, why is it off its base? If the flange is broken, you could also do this yourself if there is no damage to the floor. If you have more than one toilet, I would turn off the water, empty the toilet tank and bow (flush and then remove any extra water) and remove the toilet. Then look at the bolts the toilet sits on. It it is all good, then just buy a new wax ring and replace the toilet. If you have physical disabilities that would make this harder to do, then maybe a neighbor can help you out. When we had to replace the flange a few years ago, we also had floor issues so it was more involved, my bro helped out since my husband could not lift it , the flange cost about $10, the ring $5 and that part only took about 20 minutes. Just make sure the toilet is push all the way down and bolts tightened. Home Depot is very helpful in this. They might have a video online.
