Hi,
I'm new to mamasource and I was wondering if anyone knows of a resource where I might find affordable cloth diapers. I've checked out the services in my area but they are all quite expensive and I don't think they provide 'fitted' diapers which I would perfer. Thsnks :-)

What can I do next?

I don't use cloth diapers, but if you're interested, I just started using 100% biodegradable diapers from Nature BabyCare. I love them!!! They are chlorine free, and my toddler never gets a diaper rash! They're line-priced with Pampers and Huggies... but they are 100% Biodegradable!!!! Yeah!

What a coincidence you should ask! We just started our son on pocket cloth diapers. They work very well. We ordered ours at www.cuddlebunz.com. There is more info at www.fuzzibunz.com. They work so well that the sites buy back used ones. You can also find used fuzzi bunz diapers on ebay too. Buy the joey kicks hemparoo inserts These are much more absorbent and more odor resistant.

Hi Suzanne! I have bought my cloth diapers and covers from babynaturale.com. The company was just sold to a new owner, but the old owner was very prompt with deliveries and I called her with questions once - very helpful. Their prices seemed very competitive as well. Good luck!

Yeah, forget the services. They are really expensive and they still (most of the ones I know) give you unfolded, old style diapers that you have to use diaper pins with! Check out the website www.softclothbunz.com. I used cloth diapers for my first born and I couldn't find the website where I purchased his, but they have an almost identical diaper for less money. Don't forget to get a few diaper covers. Cloth diapers are still fairly expensive, but these seem to be more affordable. The real downside of cloth diapers is the laundry you have to do. You have to do at least a load of the cloth diapers a day. If you don't work, I guess it's not much of an issue, but if you work or you use daycare, cloth diapers really are difficult to do, particularly your first baby. I did cloth diapers for about three months, then had to give up when I returned to work. My second baby, I didn't even bother and went straight to disposables. I know you have your heart set on cloth, but you may want to check out environmentally friendly disposable diapers. They will make you life so much easier, and you can still feel like you're not killing the ecosystem and filling landfills.

Hi Suzanna! - I'm s excited to hear you are interested in cloth diapers. My son is in good old fashioned unbleached cotton, birds-eye prefolds with Bumkins covers (which are pthalate and PVC free) and all hemp "doublers". I do the laundry at home and have found it suprisingly easy and very affordable (esp. if you dry them on the line!).
If you are up for doing the laundry at home (I only do mine every other day), check out babyworks.com . They have a wonderful diaper sampler where you can try all kinds of diapers and even return what you don't like! They also have SUPER friendly staff who are VERY knowledgable and love to help. No, I don't work for the company, I just think they're that great :)
Generally speaking pre-folds or chinese pre-folds with simple covers are the most affordable option. Kissaluvs makes a decent coutoured diaper but it is higher priced & not %100 cotton. It really just depends on what you prefer :)
Best of luck!! Feel free to e-mail with questions - I remember feeing really overwhelmed when shopping for cloth diapers - there's so much out there :)
A.

Hi Suzanna, I use BumGenius All in Ones that I got from www.comfybummy.com. They are really easy to use, they don't require covers, and fit just like a normal paper diaper. Also, I recommend going to www.pottypail.com and getting the sprayer hose attachment for your toilet. It is a snap to just spray the diapers off and leave them in a nylon bage until you are ready to wash them. Good luck!

we use dydee diaper service and think it is reasonable - $20 a week is what you would spend on disposable...

also we use 70 a week - so if you bought them you would need at least 10-15 to rotate - we use about 7 -10 a day and all the water it would take to wash... we decided to use the service

we think it is great ..

just a suggestion...

Have you tried DyDee Diapers. They are great. $18 a week for 80 diapers. You have to buy the diaper covers. But the rest is part of the package. They are great. 1-###-###-####. Hope this helps. R.
