I have NO energy at all. I also am having a hard time eating. Is there anything that I could do, take or drink that will help with either of these two? I gave up coffee and sugar for the most part, and eating is just hard to do because i feel like i am going to get sick each time i do. My Dr. told me to stay away from hot foods and eat cold. that helped a little, but not enough. please, if anyone has any advice let me know. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Have you tried plain salty chips, ginger tea, ginger ale, ginger milk, water ice? Just some ideas.

Each woman experiences their own kind of issues when first pregnant, I recommend just keep trying different food until you find what works for you. I was fortunate to not go through the barfing phase, but instead got never ending indigestion/heartburn. I love the tums. I also found I got carsick easily in my first trimester of the first pregnancy, but not since then. (almost done my second pregnancy)

I also found that nothing ever sounded good, but if it was put in front of me, I'd eat it. That's ok if you have someone to feed you, but I would eat horribly whenever no one was around, because I never wanted anything.

Anyway, just another voice to let you know, it is normal, you will be ok.

Some people do not react well to their prenatal vitamins, so you may want to consider changing when you take them and see if that changes when you feel your worst or not. Different brands have different results. Some people swear that milkshakes/smoothies saved their all day sickness. (morning sickness is such a joke- if only it were just in the morning!) I ate a lot of melted cheese and crackers the first time round, this time, I just want potatoes.

Welcome to you your first trimester. It will get better soon. I lost 10 pounds the first time I was pregnant because I felt like I couldn't eat. I learned to keep crackers by the side of my bed so I could eat first thing in the morning. That seemed to help. If the nausea doesn't go away, you can ask your doctor to perscribe something. As for no energy, that is normal too - you will be able to fall asleep anywhere, anytime. By the time you reach the end of your second trimester, you will be just the opposite - always hungry with tons of energy. Congratulations!

Hi C.,
Drink lots of water. It helps and you need it anyway. Also try club crackers, gatorade, and other bland things. Try to keep a little something in your stomach at all times. Don't binge either. Congrats and good luck!

I'm on my third pregnancy and each one has been different. If you are like most, you will feel MUCH better by about 3 months - about 13-15 weeks was the time for me. I agree with another that said to keep something in your stomach. That something may be different for you and for different pregnancies. With my first it was fresh fruit. The sugar really helped to settle my stomach and it's healthy so i ate a variety of kinds and colors and figured I was getting fiber and vitamins. I'd eat a piece or dish of fruit just about every 1.5-2 hours while awake. It was pretty rediculous. I got so tired of eating and my jaw would hurt, but as long as I never let my belly get empty, I didn't feel sick.

With my second, Minestrone soup from Olive Garden really calmed my tummy. It was warm and comforting.

This time it was never the same thing twice. This time was the hardest. My first 2 are just 3 and 21 months so I found myself not having a chance to eat frequently enough to prevent the sick feeling. Also, I had little appetite unlike the first 2 times. I didn't like how most things smelled either and usually what worked one day, was a big turn off the next. It drove my husband insane. He tried so hard finding things to make me feel better but it was a lot of work. Thankfully by 12 weeks it started to fade and by 14 was basically gone. I still don't have a huge appetite, but at least I don't feel sick.

In all 3 pregnancies, I did find it important to force myself to eat and do so frequently and this minimized my symptoms. Often times the first few bites were painful, but if I could get past those, it got better and my appetite would improve as the meal went on. Whenever I felt I could eat, I tried to do so. Sometimes foods you can grab without having to cook (min smell and energy) can get you through harder times. Yogurt, fresh fruit, cut raw veggies (get your fiance to clean and cut them in advance for you), popcorn, crackers are easy foods to grab and take a few bites.

There isn't a lot you can do about the energy. Do try to eat/nibble through the day as best as you can and that will help a bit. Otherwise, take advantage that this is your first and nap whenever you can. I taught kindergarten when I was pregnant with my first and I'd always come home and crash on the sofa each afternoon. It's been progressively harder with each one to get the rest, but do your best. Mine are good nappers so I've tried to at min lay down for half- hour while they sleep to catch up a bit. Try going to bed earlier since you're probably waking up to go to the bathroom several times a night.

Hi, I was very sick when I got pregnant and I couldn't keep anything down. My doctor told me to only drink sips of water or weak but sweet tea. He also told me not to eat and drink at the same time. I would eat small meals first with absolutely nothing to drink and then afterwards I would sip the tea. It worked for me. I was still very tired but at least I could eat without running to the ladies room wherever I was. I hope this helps.
