Advice Needed About Soon-to-be Walker

My son just turned nine months old and he is already starting to experiment with standing on his own (without holding on to anything). In your experience, about how soon after this will he be able to walk? He's very strong, limber and confident, and he has been crawling super fast for at least a few months now. Also, is anything in particular recommended to start the process of walking (or showing him) or is this something instictive that they pick up on their own and by watching us? I don't have the energy to hold his arms up and walk with him (b/c I am newly prego) but do I really have to do this??

What can I do next?

Crawling helps with the left to right motion that you use when reading, but there's no reason to keep him from walking. Even the child that did not crawl first can learn what they need to read from other areas, like riding a tricycle. You can sit a couple of his steps away from him and hold your arms out to him and encourage him to walk to you. Also there are push toys made just for this. He will learn to walk with or without your help and then the fun begins!

If anything I was advised to allow them to crawl as long as possible. Something about crawling helps them with reading skills!

I got the Fischer price play wall for my daughter. Little expensive but I and my daughter loved it.

The kiddo can pull up holding on to toy and walk around it..pure fun!!

My 1st son started to do the same thing around 9 months, I was sure he would walk on his own soon after that. He would take steps here & there, but it wasn't until 1 week after he turned 1 that he did it all on his own permanently. I had a few walking toys & a walker, he didn't like the walker that much or for that long, but the toys seem to help. Good luck!

My eldest son didn't crawl at all. He saw no need I guess. He was walking unassisted at 9 months. At almost 9 months he saw a child around his age maybe a bit older walking..well, he wasn't going to let that stop him...it looked like fun after all. lol So by a week he was walking unassisted. It depends on the child on how long it will take. My youngest didn't walk until he was 12 months old. GO FIGURE! So, it all depends.

He is doing great then...no need to push him to walk. He has plenty of time. My kids all took their first steps on their own and they all did this during their 12th month. He will eventually experiment with this on his own as well :)

You can purchase push toys for him and lay him on his back and do bicycle strokes to strengthen his large motor skills(legs. You can also use pull your sofas and chairs in the living room close together but enough space in between to catch and have him rotate back and forth and in no time he willshould be walking. Good luck!!
