Anytime you need info on a drug go to www.webmd.com This is an awesome website. It gives you doses, side effects just about anything you need to know for about any drug you can think of!!
I found this through WebMD.com. It is a sponsored link, so it may be sugar-coated somewhat, but here is what it said:
"Adderall XR was generally well tolerated in clinical studies. The most common side effects in studies included: children - decreased appetite, difficulty falling asleep, stomachache, and emotional lability; adolescents - loss of appetite, difficulty falling asleep, stomachache, and weight loss; adults - dry mouth, loss of appetite, difficulty falling asleep, headache, and weight loss. Aggression, new abnormal thoughts/behaviors, mania, growth suppression, worsening of motion or verbal tics and Tourette's syndrome have been associated with use of drugs of this type. Tell your doctor if you or your child have blurred vision while taking Adderall XR."
You can also run a Google search on it, which will take you to a lot of sites discussing it, as well as some that will have responses of people or parents who have used it and can give you some added insight. I hope that helps!
You can also look up www.rxlist.com for info on it too my son was on it for adhd and he also had bipolar and it induced a mania in him and in children mania causes rage and suicidal tendancies. Message me back if ya want to know more.

Most of the kids that I see who are on Adderall, have loss of appetite and a "slump" in mood after the meds wear off. It is a much safer drug, than those in the past. One thing that your Doc may/may not have mentioned, do not take the meds with any type of citrus.

I am sure you have read all of the side affects online or through the information you have received from your doctor or pharmacy, however if you are looking for a more personal side of it, my 12 yo daughter has been on it for 4 years and I have been taking it for 3 yrs. My daughter was almost 9 when she started taking it and she was(is) very small for her age.
We have had very good luck with this medication and our doctor has been wonderful in helping manage our ADHD. One issue that sticks out in my head is that it is kind of a pain is that we have drive to our doc's office to pick up the script once a month, then take it to the pharmacy. Be sure to make sure everything is on the written script before you leave the office, the DEA #, the diagnosis, the date, EVERYTHING! If not, you will have to drive back to the doc's office to have it fixed before the pharmacy will fill it. I understand why they are such sticklers about it, it is a controlled substance and they are just doing their job of keeping it off the streets as much as they can, it is just a pain in the rear. At least it is for us, I mean Hello! I have ADHD and I have to remember to get my med's filled, UGH! lol
Another thing I can touch on w/ our own personal experience is the decreased eating and trouble sleeping. As for the sleeping, we have just figured out a good time to take it and it all worked out in the end. The eating, he will just have to remember to eat. He may not feel hungry, but he will need to remember that his body needs food. My daughter eats a big breakfast before she takes the medication, smaller lunch, usually after school she is starving and then eats a good dinner. I on the other hand usually skip breakfast and eat lunch, then an apple or something small and light, then dinner. I find that if I go w/out food too long, I get very moody and grumpy. So even if I am not hungry I try to eat something healthy such as fruit, it gives me the energy I need. After I have eaten something, I feel more hungry. I am sure that sounds strange, but for my daughter and I that is what it is like.
Anyway, I am sorry about the long winded reply. If you have any other questions, and in no means am I claiming to be a professional, I would be happy to help. I only know what we have been through.
Good luck and if Adderall isn't right for him, something else will be!
Hi,
My son is on Adderall xr it is time release. The side affects for him are not being hungry and also having trouble falling asleep at night. Other than that he has been doing so well. I hope this helps.
my nephew is on it. I know in teenagers it can cause depression so bad they can become suicidal. Try looking it up on the web and seeing if they say.
