Hello!! I live right ON the border of garland and richardson around the jupiter arapaho area. Summer is fast coming upon us and am desperately looking for things to do with my bunch. As you can tell in my "about me" section my family run the gamut when it comes to abilites and ages!! My son Dakotah is in a wheelchair, which really puts a damper on a lot of tihngs and then I have the babies that can't always participate in things but desperately WANT to keep up with their older brothers!!!

I would like to say that we are throwing my eldest son, JD, a 5th grade graduation party at Main Event in Plano and I wanted to put the word out what an awesome help they have been in planning it! They have so many options for my disabled son that we plan on going there as often as finances allow us! For instance, they are going to allow dakotah to play lasertag and are adamant he would be safe to play (going to ck it out myself soon), they also have bumpers bowling and they add a ramp to his lane to help him be able to "throw" the ball and make it to the pins!!! When I told them about the little ones also going to be there (they aren't tall enough to play lasertag), they offered video cards to keep them busy while the others play!! YAY!! If anyone is planning a party, I highly recommend it!!! For LESS money than a chuck e cheese party, they get the same ammenities for the party and activities that get their tail end up and moving!! YAY for activity!!!

Back on track...does anyone have any suggestions about things to do in the area that would accomodate his wheelchair, keep the little ones interested AND not break our very meager bank?? (hubby works on commission and it was a very rough winter...just now recovering from that!!!!) I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions you may have!!!

Thanks in advance!!!

So What Happened?

I just have to update this one!!!

Tammy and I have since discovered that we truly ARE neighbors!! We live on the same street! I soo look forward to getting to know her and I actually have a FRIEND that it doesn't take me an hour to get to!! YAY!!!

I plan on contacting Kristen by email now that I have a few and my brain is semi working...LOL!! Thank you so much for her contact information!!!

The kids and I are looking forward to the library trips and I am familiarizing myself with the park system!! Not only for the kids, but for myself also! As soon as I am under drs care, I would like to start running/walking to try to train for a 5k in the future. That is just something I have always wanted to try!!

Thanks again ladies for all your advice...it is very much appreciated!!!

Hi H.!

We are neighbors! I also live at Jupiter and Arapaho. During the summer, the Garland libraries have weekly shows. They have various entertainers, such as clowns, magicians, puppeteers... all of my kids love it. I am also a stay at home mom. My kids are 17(stepdaughter),almost 10, 4, and 20 months. Do you guys like hiking? There some paved trails on part of the springcreek preserve. If you would like to get together this summer, feel free to private message me. We are always looking for new friends. The kids and me both! Since we live so close, it would be super convenient!!! Have a great summer!

H.,
Check out the local Garland Parks and Rec! http://www.ci.garland.tx.us/Home/Departments/Recreation+a...

They can help you find something for everyone.

My kids have similar age differences, and we do make the older ones sit out while the younger ones play and then the other way around. Even w/o the disabilities it isn't easy to find something for everyone.

As summer approaches you can also check out the web pages for the major theaters- last year 2 of them did free daily kid movies.

Maybe different vacation Bible Schools in your area- they are usually free.

Another option for YOU- check out the Friday NITE friends program at Custer Road Methodist church. The offer babysitting for speacial needs kids and their siblings! For more information, contact Judith Jolly at ext. 247, ____@____.com or visit www.fridaynitefriends.org.

Have a fun summer!
