Ok, i've asked this before but am asking it again....I am now 35 and am on a bunch of prescription things for my skin (Retin-A, Minocycline, Clindamycin etc) and I am still breaking out like crazy!!!! Nothing is working anymore. Is this a hormonal thing going on??? Does anyone have any ideas. I need help.

So What Happened?

Well, I have pretty much exhausted all of my options from the dermatologist aside from taking Accutane which I will not do. I basically give up. Nothing has worked for me and right now my face looks terrible. I am going to try going on birth control pills (as a last resort) to see if this helps.

I have friends who once swore about prescriptions and Proactiv amongst other things. Then they tried Arbonne's Clear Advantage. Now they are so hooked, the one had to order the product and ship it to her daughter while she was stationed in Afghanistan!!!

K.,

I got terrible acne that lasted for months until I figured out that it was a reaction to a product I was using in my hair. I had long hair at the time so my face was in contact with the product. I stopped using the product and my skin cleared up in less than a week.

Good luck,
R.

Hi,
I have had acne trouble my whole life. Everything worked for a while but would eventually stop being effective. I have recently learned that my breakouts were due almost entirely to reactions with my shampoo and body wash! I started washing my hair and face with plain baking soda ( available anywhere for a couple bucks) and I have seen a huge difference. For my hair I mix one tablespoon of baking soda with about 1 cup of warm water in the shower, pour on my hair, let sit for a minute, then rinse. For my face I just gently rub a little baking soda on wet skin and rinse off- its gritty and salty so it gently exfoliates. Its water soluble so it completely rinses away and does not clog pores. After that I usually use some of Thayers Witch Hazel (available in most grocery stores and pharmacy's) as a skin toner. So far my skin is much healthier and has stayed healthy for much longer than when I used over the counter or prescription treatments- I think shampoo has been the culpret this whole time. Oh and baking soda has been leaving my hair much softer and shiner than shampoo ever did, even my 2 yearold daughter has commented on how soft and shinny my hair is now! Give it a try- I hope it works as well for you as it has for me!

You may also want to think about what kinds of food you are eating. My face breaks out horribly if I eat too many dairy products - especially when I used to eat cottage cheese. Maybe try an elimination diet (don't eat eggs for week, then dairy, then wheat, etc.) to see if the problem clears up when you stop eating something. I think someone already mentioned the harm in overwashing - so take care in how you're treating your skin (use warm water not hot, use a gentle natural soap, don't use a washcloth or exfoliant, pat dry, don't rub...) Good luck - I know how frustrating it is. Oh - also drink plenty of fresh water!

Hi Kristen:

There could be a number of reasons why this is happening. Hormonal, diet, emotional stress, compromised digestive system. I recommend a holistic health consultation to address the issue, instead of using prescribed drugs that just mask the problem (and most times make it worse). Feel free to consult with my office. We utilize the natural remedy approach to assist any health condition.

All the best,
N.

Hi K.
It sounds like you have tried a lot of medical things for your skin. We did that with our daughter, but in the end it was an allergic reaction to something in the air. The best thing we did for her was to get bare mineral make up. Maybe she needed the minerals, and maybe it protects the skin from allergens.(that is my thought) Could it be hormonal? Yes, of course, she was a young teen, but it has worked for about 3 years now, and relapses only come when she gets lazy about it.
Just an idea and for 20 dollars a month it was a cheap solution compared to other things we tried.
God bless you and give you wisdom
K.

Hi K.,
I know the feeling. Although hormones play a big part and genetics don't help I have also tried it all. After some research I decided to try more natural products and I have seen a huge difference. I also have four teens at home who also inherited my skin and it has helped them tremendously. The products are great and offer a 45 day return, no questions asked. Because of how great these products are I decided to sell them. If you would like more information please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hello K.
If you've have problems in your teenage years with PMS, more than likely your acne is hormonal. If this is adult onset acne it can be caused from lack of specific nutrients combined with dysfunctional hormones. Lastly, check your basal temperature before rising each morning for 5 days, and average the temps. If your average temp is below 97.7 degrees you may have subclinical hypothyroidism which can impact all systems in your body, including the hormones.
HealthQuest Nutrition as dealt with clientele dealing with this type of skin problem for over 30 years... and have found folks , including my oldest son, have had great success after using specific natural supplements and homeopathic therapy. Some products I highly recommend are : Dermavites, Skin Drops, Thyroid 120, Sulfa*Derm. For more information about each product please visit our web site www.healthquestnutrition.com

My stepdaughter has severe acne and loves Zap-it!® Acne Defense System. Nothing else has worked for her. It features two all-natural ingredients: Salicylic Acid to fight acne and prevent future breakouts, and T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil to soothe and condition skin. All I know is it works for her. It is reasonably priced. Call me at ###-###-#### and I can connect you to her if you would like to talk to her. You can also learn more at my web site, www.workathomeunited.com/loism.

Hi K.. I am 37 years old and have been suffering from severe adult cystic acne for quite a few years now. I have tried all of the products. My bathroom is filled with Proactiv, Murad, soy products, creams, lotions, medications.... I have visited the dermatologist WEEKLY to have Cortisone shots in my face, directly on the cyst. Yuck and Ow! I have taken every antibiotic out there with absolutely no results.

I was also on Accutane in my 20's, but I fell into the 5% of people who's acne came back. If your problem is hormonal all of the over the counter products out there will probably work for you for long. I know that at first Proactiv was wonderful and I was ecstatic. That lasted about two months and it lost it's magic for me. Same for Murad, Neutrogena...

My problem is definitely hormonal. Acne that is showing up around the chin and mouth is typically hormonal for a woman your age (according to my dermatologist and OBGYN). The only thing that worked wonders for me was going on the Pill. At first I tried Yaz because it actually is advertised as helping acne. It did not help and in fact made it worse so I switched to a different Pill called Levora. I am not saying that this Pill is the one for you. I think it is very individual, but if you haven't tried using the Pill to help cure your acne give it a shot and see what happens.

My doctore also prescribed Benzaclyn and Differen 0.3%. They are extremely strong topical lotions that really work great as well in combination with the Pill.

Try speaking to your dermatologist about this. I am actually shocked that they haven't recommended it or maybe they did already. All I know is that within a week to two weeks my severe acne cleared up completely. I recently was off the pill for a week and immediately my acne returned so I know for sure that the Pill is the way to go for me.

Good luck and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Peace,
J.

Egg yolk. Yes, I know it sounds disgusting. It's an Indian remedy that worrks, because of the natural retin-A and collegen. It can even repair damage done by the retin-A you get from the pharmacist. First, wash your face with a non-oilly cleanser like Noxema. Then beat up an egg yolk and put it on your face...Leave it set there for 10 min. before washing it off. Do this once or twice a day.

Hi K.,
As an adult, I had acne as well. You didn't mention that you used any non-prescription items to address it. I used Pro-Active, and it worked like a charm. If you haven't tried it, give it a try. Maybe you can ask for a trial size. I have a cousin that it didn't work for, and you don't want to waste your hard-earned money. Good luck!
