I struggled with the EXACT SAME thing. I wanted something that could transcend generations, something that may be passed down... something that would be special and meaningful and beautiful.
So after much soul searching, shopping, thinking and agonizing I found a beautiful heirloom quality cradle. http://www.bassinetsandcradles.com/prod/old_world_cradle_...
To lay my son in this cradle on the very first night he came home, to see him sleeping there and know that one day his own child would sleep in that same cradle - - Oh, it brings tears to my eyes even now.
I have sweet sweet photos of him all swaddled, laying there so small.
It's a full page in his baby book with a beautiful poem:
"Tonight as you lay sleeping
for the first time in your bed
there must be something lasting
and profound that should be said."
"But as your faced is gazed upon
framed by your soft, sweet hair
Nor words can tell or quite express
The feelings that we share."
"The wait is finally over
You're home at last to stay
And there will always be the memories
Of the joy that filled this day"
"With a love that's running over
By the sight of you alone
Welcome home, dear cherished one,
At long last, Welcome Home"
- Good luck and congratulations.
