haha , made you look! kidding... really,though... this might be dumb, but i am wondering if anyone knows of a way to make a childs necklace, cute beaded thing with satin cord or lanyard or whatever, and tie a knot that is safe? i am drawing a blank on how i would do thiis without little parts, maybe a kind of a knot that will come apart if its pulled hard, you know?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks ladies, i know its weird, my daughter is old enough to not have to really worry about the beads, but we want to make them with/for friends and im just not comfortable sending other peoples kids home with them if they dont open somehow. weve always just done bracelets. a simple jump ring might be just the thing. thanks again for all the ideas :)

What do you mean by a knot that is safe? You want it to be able to come apart? They make little closures that are magnetic, so that you can just pull them apart, if that's what you're wanting.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Use thread for one link. Experiment to find something that will break at whatever level of force you feel most comfortable with.

this is a little weird but coudl you cut a tiny piece of velcro and hot glue it on to the ends of your necklace then stick the velcro together.

have to say, if you are concerned about the strangulation, wouldn't you be worried about the choking hazard of the bead or what ever? Sorry if i'm not quite following you, what age is the child?

I second the idea of using magnetic clasps. Or you could run the necklace material through little metal "jump" rings that can be pulled open, and attach a regular lobster-claw clasp. These can be found inexpensively at craft or beading stores.

If your daughter's necklace ever caught on anything, it would pull only long enough for those tiny metal hoops to be yanked open. Probably wouldn't even leave a mark on her neck. I actually lost a necklace that way.

Just look up "Fisherman's knot" online.

Or, make a loop on one end, and then on the other end, tie a pony bead onto it. Thereby, making a loop and bead, attachment to end the necklace.

Or, simply make the necklace, long enough to go over her head, and then just double knot it at the ends. So it won't come off. And it can only come off by pulling it over her head.

Or, look up "Macrame" knots online.
