I had my duaghter at Mercy SanJaun. Before I had her, i loved this hosp. As for ME i will continue to go there, but when i had my duaghter i felt really uncomfortable, as i am pushing they had a male janitor in there changing the garbage, and another guy came in and changed the light bulb, all while i was pushing. On top of that i had her on Super Bowl Sunday, so of course my husband and i had the game on.... so the doc who gave me the epidural came in and while he was giving me the shot he would take his eyes off me to see what was happening on the tv. My back still hurts to this day. My provider is blue cross, i need a good doctor, and a great hospital to go to if anyone has any suggestions please help. also im a little worried because i got preg. so soon i never let my body heal, and i am now having slight cramps every now and then. i am about 1 1/2 mo.

What can I do next?

I've had all of my 5 kids in a different hospital it seems. MY 1st at Mercy Folsom. Loved it there. 2nd at ____@____.com was okay but I was spoiled by the mercy system. I had my last 3 kids at Mercy san Juan.
If you have any problems please let the hospitals know. I filled out a questionaire about my stay and I got a call back from the regarding my questions. So they do want to make the birth experience wonderful and I also did have kids close together so I unserstand what you are going through.

I know the best hospital...U.C. Davis Medical Center on Stockton Blvd...I have had 5 children and I am pregnant with my 6th and I have had children at Sutter General, Mercy General, and U.C. Davis and U.C. Davis is the best...They attend to you like you are a queen...They treat you like you are special. Plus they are a university so you get the best care and with many people looking after you...One more plus...if there is anything wrong (God forbid) with you or your baby that is the best place to have care they are advanced in all medical procedures and they are the only ones who have pediatric equipment to deal with little bodies...I hope this helps and I will have this baby and any future babies at U.C. Davis Hospital...P.S. The rooms are newly remodeled and they are private...you can be admitted, have the baby and spend the rest of the time in the same private room...as long as they are not too busy...but they have alot of those rooms. Oh and they take Blue Cross so you wont have to change a thing...Set up an appointment to tour the hospital for free and see if you like it.

Hi C.,

I loved the nurses and staff at Sutter Memorial 5151 F St. The nurses took great care to ensure my privacy and I had excellent care aftre my baby was delivered. Incidentally, they have the best results with epidurals because they perform hundreds each month! Good luck with your baby and pregnancy.

Hi C., congrats on the pregnancy and baby. I can't help you with the different hospital because i had my children at kaiser-and well that would mean you would have to change everything-providers, drs, and wait for open enrollment.
As far as your discomfort...the back, i was having numbness issues for a yr after. And the cramping feeling they say is fairly normal after your 1st child. All pregnancies are different.
Best of luck to you and your family,
P.

Hi! My OB/GYN is Dr. Lisa Sundburg with Camilla Women's Group. She has an office on Bell Ave in Sacramento and in Roseville.I assume they take Blue Cross. My twin daughters were born at Sutter Memorial Hospital and I am so thankful that they were born there. I was hospitalized with pre-eclampsia and had an emergency c-section at 26 weeks. Sutter Memorial has the BEST NICU unit in the area and we received amazing care. If we decide to have another baby, there is no question were he/she would be born.

UC Davis was excellent. I would recommend them to anyone who is haveing a baby. I had a last minute doctor freak out on the weekend they decided induce labor and as a result I got to spend some time in three different hospitals. Mercy General, Mercy San Juan, UC Davis which was the best. My epidural hurt a while afterwards too.

My back hurt for about a year after my spinal (with my first son- born in San Jose.) It get better in time.
I had two of my babies at Mercy General and loved them, I would have had my littlest guy there too but the hospital is too far from our house for my labors ( I just made it with my daughter.) Every one was great from the L & D nurses to the post partum nurses. My Dr (Michael Burman) was good too but I have realized finding the right Dr is very personal. There's an awesome book called "Rebounding from Childbirth", it might be helpful for you. It was for me.
My littlest guy was born at Sutter Roseville. They are okay but the L & D nurse was too busy reading the machines to notice that I was laboring for real and treated me as if I was crazy. Per my doctor she was going to send me home except Mr Doctor said "just admit her, I will come in and speed things along" but ten minutes after I was given a room, my son was crowning-and no doctor yet. I like to think that that nurse might have learned a valuable lesson but who really knows. My Doctor in Roseville was Dr. Leon who I love!!

I had my second son at Sutter Roseville. When we went for the tour it felt like a hotel (3 star). I was originally supose to be at Kaiser Morres. But my insurance changed thankfully. I had surgery at 4mths at Kaiser - doctores were great - but the hospital was old. So walking into Sutter Roseville was a relief. The rooms were large enough and private. Staff was awesome.Another great birthing expirience, even if not at the same place as my first child.

Hi C.! I had my son at Sutter Memorial and had a really great experience! My OB was Dr. Knight (he is located right next to Sutter Memorial in midtown on H street) but I heard a rumor that he was retiring. I have Kaiser now so I don't know if the rumor is true or not. You should check Dr. Knight out and the hospital! Good luck!

I gave birth to my youngest at Sutter Roseville. I checked in at @ 5am and the nurses there were great. They took really good care of me and my family while we were there. The only male that I remember seeing in my room was the doctor that delivered my son. However, since you are already with Mercy, I would think changing to Sutter would require you to change more then your hospital, which you may not want to do. If I were in your position, I would make appointments with the other mercy hospitals and view their maternity wards, take the tour and be sure to ask lots of questions. Good Luck & congrats x2!

Hi C.,

I have had both of my children and will be having my 3rd one at Sutter off of H Street. I have experienced nothing but good there. The nurses are awesome! They really make you feel comfortable and sercure with your privacy. I can't believe they would let a janitor in the room, that is just nuts. That's to be taken care of when the room is not in service. My goodness. Anyway I have blue cross too and have had no problems at Sutter.

Hope this helps.

I had my baby at the woodland memorial hospital. I absolutely loved it. You might want to check with your insurance to see if you could go out of your county. I live in natomas so the drive to the woodland clinic with dr. curtis was not bad at all 15 min. since it is not an extremely busy hospital the staff is wonderful, you get a huge room where you stay the whole time during labor, delivery and postbaby, you dont have to share with anybody. the accomidation for family is great the get a love seat size sofa bed (beats the recliner hard chair)your bathroom has a huge jacuzzi for you to use. I personally had a good expierence at woodland healthcare.

Hi C.,
I had both my children at Mercy Hospital Folsom. With my first born 2003 I was very critical due to the HEELP syndrome. That is where your platelets drop and kidneys start shutting down. With such a wonderful nursing team and GREAT doctors I survived.
My daughter is a year old today and while I was in the hospital they took very good care of us both. I didn't have the Heelp syndrome this last time which I was so grateful.
When I worked in housekeeping for the hospital I never once went in the room while the patient was having labor. Mercy Folsom staff would not allow that at all. We come in to clean after the patient is done giving birth sometime after or when the patient moves to the other department Maternal New born unit. Sorry to hear that happen to you during your labor. I wish you the best and hope you find a hospital that makes you feel comfortable and takes good care of you and your child.

Hi C.,

I had my daughter in October at Mercy General in downtown Sacramento. My OB doc was Dr. Akin. She was amazing. My experience at the hospital was wonderful as well. My RN while I was delivering was Nicole and she was the best. She always made sure that I had something to drink and would bring me Jello. I have a back condition and was unable to have an epideral and my OB made sure the staff was aware before I even came in to have the baby so everyone knew exactly what I needed.

Good Luck!

For privacy you can't beat The Birth Center off Dewey. It's an independent midwife center in Carmichael or Citrus Heights who works directly with U.C. Davis. It's just you and 1 nurse and the midwife in the entire building if it's after hours or on weekends. No one else. They do all prenatal care and after visits too. It's in a home which has been converted so feels very warm and loving and the midwife is excellent and very knowledgeable.
