Hi Moms..I have a question and I would appreciate any help. My 9mth old is eating stage 2 baby food (fruit amd Veggies) since he was 4mths as well as Yo Baby yougert, puffs and cheerios. I know he is ready to try table foods, he watches us eat at every meal and wants to take part. Is this too early? How much do I feed him? And another thing, he likes to eat cheerios and puffs, but will not drink form his sippy. He has had a sippy from 4mths old, but he just chews the nipple and the water spills on him. Any suggestions on that too? I tried formula in the sippy but he refuses it completely. Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thanks!!!

P.S. Never tried juice with sippy only water and formula. I know 4mths was early to start solids, but he was so ready!

What can I do next?

I loved teh website wholesome baby.com. it really helped w/ my LO and feedings. I dont think that is too young if you choose carefully, cut small and moniter. my DD never liked a sippy cup either, which is good bc they are really not recom. for them. I got a plastic shot glass and that is what I have my DD drink out of. yeah at first it was a bit messy, but she learned fast and was drinking out of bigger cups in no time. we still use sippys for on the go I just keep them in the diaper bag and take the top off so she can use it like a cup to drink out of. I attempted to drink out of a sippy once and it was actually hard to do. LOL

hi there!

when my son was 9 months old i just let him take the lead to let me know when he wanted more or when he was full! sometimes they will eat great and other times it seems like more food is stuck to him or on the floor than what was eaten!

here are some foods i've had luck with...sweet potato oven fries, turkey meatloaf (i made these in a muffin pan and froze most of them so i'd have some on hand when he couldn't eat what we were eating), baby pasta (pastina) salad with little pieces of cooked carrot and broccoli, french toast, whole grain pancakes, mini banana muffins (i usually make these at home too with whole grain flour and applesauce instead of oil), gnocchi cut into 3rds with butter and cheese (this on is always a favorite!), grilled chicken (i use chicken drums then once they are off the grilled i take off the skin and remove the meat from the bone) - walmart and babies r us also have baby mums mums (rice crackers) - my son looooves these! they are so easy to transport - oh yeah, he also likes black beans and garbanzo beans (cut in half). good luck!

i also tried these new sippy cups - they are the "sprot bottles" by nuby.

i hope everything works!

I don't think 9 months is too early. By 9 months my daughter was eating probably 75 % finger foods and now at ten she's almost soley eating table food. As far as how much to feed I think every baby is so different it's hard to say. I freeze things like spaghetti in a muffin pan to have individual portions ready at all times and my daughter will eat one portion of that plus probably 1/2 of a yogurt or a serving a veggies at one meal.

Not sure on the sippy cup. My only advice is to keep trying. It took my daughter a while to get the hang of it too, not unitl around 9 months, but now she's a pro.

Good luck!

Try cups with straws instead of sippies. They are better for their mouth development anyhow:)
Just shred off little pieces of meat with your fork, mash soft foods like sweet potatoes, and give him little pieces of bananas, avacadoes, and peas to pick up - whatever! Just make sure it's little:)
They never actually need the jarred foods unless you start solids before their systems are ready around 6 months old. They may show interest, but their digestives systems really aren't. But you can start table foods at 6 months, so don't worry about it now that you've waited until 9 months!!

Hi! My son is also 9 months but he rarely eats baby food; he wants nothing to do with it. He eats whatever I am eating unless it is totally inappropriate for him like shellfish or something really spicy! I just make sure that I cut the food up into cheerio sized pieces and that it is soft enough for him. I don't really think too much into how much I feed him because right now, my breastmilk is where he is getting his nutrition not the table food. I just offer him pieces of food until he looses interest or I put some cut up pieces on his highchair tray and when he starts throwing the food or just playing with it, I know he is done. Some things he likes are pancakes, chicken, cheese, yogurt (a favorite), scrambled eggs, meatballs (cut up), mashed sweet potatoes, squash, cut up bananas that I dust in graham crackers so he can pick them up easier. As far as the sippy goes, I am in the same boat. I have been giving him one since he was about 5 months old and he still does the same as your son, chews the nipple. I just continue to offer it to him.

no it is not to eary for your baby to have table food. I think his to young for a sippy. He is still a baby and he needs his bottle. My son is 14 months old and he gets a sippy and a bottle. It is a comfort for him. Be careful of him bitting the nipple. For the table food get a food processor grind of a piece of baked chicken, fix some mash potatoes put some gravy on the chicken and mash or mash a sweet potatoe and grind the top of some broccli. I use to do this for my children. Hope this helps.

My 9 month old daughter has 25 % apple juice and the rest water in her sippy. She takes a sippy at lunch time and snack time. At breakfast and dinner and night bottles she takes formula and a bottle. The apple juice and water has helped her bowel movements tremendiously and at first she just chewed on it but now she will drink from it-the trick is finding the perfect cup. We went through 8 different brands before we found one she will take.

Also, I can't help you witht he table food. We feed our daughter yogurt, puffs, wagon wheels, yogurt melts, and stage 3 baby food. She only has 2 teeth and tends to shove food in her mouth so im not in a hurry to give her table food until she is better at finger foods. And yes, i could smash up a banana or whatever else but that's the same as baby food so why not? =)

My son was on 90% table food at 9 months... I just cut up (or sometimes chewed up, lol) whatever we were eating (with the obvious exceptions of honey, shellfish, peanuts, etc.) and gave it to him. He did great with it-- mine was on solids early, too, at the advice of his pediatricians and LCs... he is a great eater and always has been!

Just cut the stuff up ridiculously small-- I never liked the food mills, but you could try them too. I would say you need to get some meat into the kid (unless you are vegetarians, in which case you probably need to talk to your ped about how to get the protein and B vitamins he needs.)

9 months is a fun age-- enjoy!
