I am starting to freak out. Right at Christmas time my 8 yo came to me and said he had a bump on his chest right on his breastbone. I took him to his dr and she said it was from hormones and may take a while to go away and may go away and then come back and as long as its not painful it's fine. I was relieved. Then a week later he tells me the inside of his cheek hurts he had a sore in his mouth. A day or two later my son comes home from school and says he has a bump on his face right on his jaw line. I take him back to the dr and she says its a lymph node that is swollen from the sore in his mouth and he actualy had another one that we didn't feel. We treased him about the bump on his chest that is was a dinosaur egg and we hoped that a dinosaur didn't hatch out of his chest. Today he said his dinosuar egg was still there and I felt his cheek and the lymph node is still swollen. I will be calling hsi dr tomorrow morning but until then has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this. I love my kids pediatrician she is very cautious doesn't give antibiotics just for a runny nose...she listens to my concerns never makes me feel stupid, my boys love her..I hope she knows what she is talking about and I am just overreacting....I have no idea what could be going on with him I just hope its nothing more serious! Any help would be soo great!

Even if it turns out to be nothing...and probably will, I wouldn't ignore my concerns. I'd get a second opinion from another pediatrician's office. Who would it hurt and the peace of mind you'd receive would be so worth it. Call your doc tomorrow and explain how worried you are and you need something to offer peace of mind...if she is unable to make you feel better by explanation, bloodwork or tests, get a second opinion. I've done it and felt much better and it actually helped increase my confidence in my ped.

I know it's not easy (because we Moms love our kids more than we love ourselves), but don't panic, Mom. It's good you're having it checked again, but I can't even tell you the # of times I've freaked out about something that turned out to be nothing or minor. Hang in there, I'm sure he'll be ok :)

Love your pediatrician or not, if it was my kid, and I was worried I would be at the hospital. Swollen lymphnodes are not nothing. The one in the chest is good size, but it sounds like the cheek one isn't too big -- a stranger looking at him isn't going to notice it right away, right? He has had it for the entire 2 and 1/2 months since Christmas -- it didn't go away and come back?

I might call the pediatricans office now before it gets to be really late. Tell the you are worried and thinking of going to the ER and see what they say. At least that way youll be on their radar screen for tomorrow, and they might be able to tell you something that will help you sleep a little easier tonight.

EDIT -- I guess I am a minority here, but some times it isn't nothing. My husband had a bruise from a christmas basketball game. It didn't heal so he finally went to the doctor. He even was in the hospital because of it. They sent him home to come in at 10AM the next morning -- 2AM -- for want of 8 hours -- he had a brain hemorage -- lost his spleen, had brain surgery, spent 11 days in a coma, had to learn to walk all over again. It wasn't nothing, and it started with just a bruise that wouldn't heal. After an experience like that, I call when I am scared with things I don't understand.

You need more information, and calling could help.

Get it checked, certainly, but lymph nodes get (and sometimes STAY) swollen very often.....good luck!

Check it out worse thing is a bill if it isn't serious. If it is serious, you improve the situation immensely by catching it with first signals!!

I agree with LuvMyFamily. Getting a second opinion is not a big deal. If he cannot be seen by the pediatrician tomorrow, then call another that someone you know can highly recommend.

I will pray for you that it is nothing! Try to get some sleep until morning.

Hugs!

totally get it checked, and if it will ease your mind get another opinion. However your doc is probably right. My brother had one on his chest, near his nipple, it was there for a year or so before it went away on its own. They did say that if it continued to grow they would remove it, but it wasn't serious or anything to worry about. My son had one on his check/jaw area and it was actually red and swollen even and again they said the same thing and it went away after a few months. My brother is now 20 and my son is now 10 and neither have had them come back. good luck!

From my own experience, my lymph nodes get swollen along my jaw line and are painful (not extremely) when I have a sore in my mouth. As far as the one in his chest, I'm not sure.

My dad has a cyst in his forehead which never grew larger than a small grape. He had it removed once and it grew back once again not getting larger than a small grape.

My daughter who is 6 has a lump in her neck the size of a pea which isn't going away. She had it x-rayed and the doctor told me it was a calcified lymph node that scarred up that way when she was sick one time. I still watch it to make sure it doesn't get bigger and it isn't bothering her in some way.

It's nice to just be sure.
