7 Weeks Pregnant Light Bleeding and Mild Cramping

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and last night started having light brown discharge. This morning it turned dark brown and then red. It's still pretty light no full pads, or panty liners but the mild cramping is what's scaring me. I've never had horrible cramps while on my period, this feels about the same as it would around that time. I also haven't picked a Dr. Yet so don't know quite where to go besides an ER which we don't have the funds for right now. Is there anywhere else I can go to first to see if there is a heartbeat or anything? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I ended up going to my husbands work a cardiology clinic. I talked to the Dr. And got an ultrasound. The baby wasn't there. The uterus was big like I was pregnant, but there was just nothing there anymore. Been crying a lot, was pretty excited about this baby even if it was a little scary the thought of having 4 kids.

The only way to see if there is a heartbeat is to go to a medical facility. A little cramping early on is normal, but I would still urge you to get checked out.

I think that most doctors offices would be happy to take you pretty fast if you are in this situation. Try a nurse midwife office also. They are very compassionate and may take you immediately. ERs are very expensive. If it's not heavy and dangerous bleeding and you can wait another 24 hours, then try to get in to a midwife or dr. tomorrow. Urgent care centers are also usually cheaper than ERs, and they may have ultrasounds. Good luck.

You can definitely get checked out, but if it is a miscarriage, there is just nothing that they can do for you. An urgent care facility will likely not have the equipment to adequately diagnose any issue with the pregnancy. I had a similar thing happen to me at about 5 weeks with my first pregnancy. I went to urgent care and they did a pregnancy blood test and said it was positive. However, they did not have an ultrasound machine so they urged me to goto the ER to get checked for an ectopic pregnancy.

I did go and it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. I was completely freaked out...they would not let my husband come in the ultrasound room with me eventhough I greatly wanted him there. I laid in a bed with a cathether waiting for blood tests etc to come back for 5 hours. At that point the ER doc came back and acted like I was wasting her time and told me that it was just my period.

I'm sorry for your lost. Always go ahead and get checked out, if may be nothing but it may be something, you need to be around for your family.

I had spotting and light cramping from the day I learned I was pregnant and then for 2-3 months afterwards. I kept thinking I was miscarrying and I couldn't enjoy being pregnant. I was actually very pregnant with twins. I guess my body was just adjusting. I"m not saying your are pregnant but don't assume you are not either. Just take a pregnancy test.

It could be muscles, tendons, etc. stretching. However, if you are experiencing red blood, you need to call your doctor. Make sure to lay down and take it easy in the interim.
