Don't despair - the sleepless nights won't last forever. It's perfectly normal for babies to have phases of more night wakings and phases of fewer night wakings throughout the first year or two.

One resource that many moms find helpful is The No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley. Also, if you need to keep him in your bed to maximize sleep for both of you, do it. A compromise that might work for you is to put him to sleep in his own bed, and bring him to yours after his first night waking.

Good luck!

Hi K., I agree with Lydia...it won't last forever and it is perfectly normal. If the only way you are going to get some decent sleep is to keep baby in bed with you, then just go with it. The No Sleep Solution is a great book!

Most likely, your little one is getting some teething pain.

K.,

My son is also 6months. I breastfeed him and he sleeps with us, in bed. He wakes about every three hours at night and I will feed him. If he happens to wake in between that time, I will try to pat his back or hold his hand just to let him know I am there. If this doesn't work and he seems to be waking up even more, then I will get up and walk around with him for a few minutes and he will go back to sleep.
There is an excellent book, which seems that it would be geared towards your parenting style, called The Baby Book by Dr. William Sears and Martha Sears R.N. They have a whole series of books, I have three of them. They go into great detail about "Nighttime Parenting" and what it's like for babies when they sleep. Their sleeping patterns are different then ours, and it helps to understand that when they don't "sleep through the night".
Enjoy the time you have with your son, that's how I feel about sleeping with him and nursing him. It's not going to last forever.
Hang in there.
S.

My son is 19 months old, but 2 or 3 times when he was younger he was waking up and it was like for a month at a time all 3 times. and it was when he was teething. I maynot be able to see him teething but it wasn't to many days after he started waking up I could tell. I had to give him medicine to help him sleep. I guess b/c his teeth were giving him so many problems. Plus he would teeth like 6 teeth in that month to 6 weeks. and not teeth at all for another 2 or 3 months. I hope this helps you. Have a good day.
