Hi im new here and really need a little help.....About 4mths ago my son came down with strep throat and scarlet fever and the scarlet fever caused him to have little bumps all over. Now 4mths later the bumps are still on his legs, chest ,back, and arms. His doc said that the antibiotics made the bumps worse and scarlet fever takes weeks to heal any way and that the bumps should go away.....nope still here ...so i just wanna know what can cause the bumps to stay around....Also when he sweats or is the pool or tub for more than a 1hr 1/2 he itches like crazy

What can I do next?

Having bumps and itchy skin for four months is not normal. He needs to be seen in person by a doctor and re-diagnosed.

It sounds like hives to me. As a child I would get hives if I got all hot and sweaty. And sometimes when I was in the swimming pool. Try giving him some benedryl and see if that helps. It can take over a week to get rid of hives and many times you do not find out what causes them.

I also second that he be seen by a dermatologist or allergist, maybe both.

When one of our daughters had scarlet fever she had a rash but no bumps at all before or after. This sounds very different from the strep type of symptoms. I would take your son to a dermatologist and not even mess with the doctor. I never heard of an anitbiotic causing this but who knows what they can cause in some people. The itching when he sweats or gets in the pool sounds almost like pores are affected but then I'm no doctor. Try a dermatologist if you know a good one.

Have you taken him back to the pediatrician to find out why he still has the bumps? I haven't dealt with scarlet fever so I have no clue. Set up an appointment with his ped and start there.

My son has excema bad. From what you describing sounds like that could be it. On my son he has small red bumps on arms, legs, back and belly. They prescribe us cortizone cream and good mostuirizer. Also we only bath him every couple days when he has an outbreak.
