My son was born 6 weeks premature but he did well and was not in the hospital very long. I'm concerned now because he just turned 5 months old and cannot hold his head up very well. His head bobs when we try to sit him up and i'm starting to worry about this. Has anyone else experienced this?

What can I do next?

My second son was 5 weeks early. He was only in the NICU for 9 days, but when he was discharged, one of his orders was that I had to take him to physical therapy. He didn't really need it, it is just the standard procedure for premature babies, but it definitely gave me peace of mind. I only had to take him every 3 months, but the PT would show me exercises to do with him to help strengthen his muscles and keep him on track. He ended up only being about a month behind where my older son had been. I'm sure your son is fine, but you could always talk to your pediatrician and see if he would recommend someone for you.

Don't worry. It will just take him a minute to catch up. My niece is 10 months old and just now sitting up and she is not even crawling yet. I think it is due to some health problems she had at birth but she is slowly but surely catching up. Good luck with everything and I am sure he will be sitting up in no time just always at least do 10 minutes of tummy time a day. I did that with my girls and it really helped them alot.

Don't worry :) I had my twin boys at 30 weeks and they were in the hospital for 6 weeks. They were never fond of tummy time so when they started crying for some reason, I would put them on their tummy...if they are going to cry, might as make it worth while :) Again, don't worry, one day he will pick his head up, roll over, army crawl and the fun just keeps on coming!! Focus on tummy time all you can, but know in the end, it will all come together when he is ready.

E.,
I agree that it will probably resolve itself. But early childhood intervention is free and an eval might give you peace of mind. Also if there is a problem, you will have identified it early.
Good luck and God bless.
