My husband turns 40 this year, and I was wondering if anyone has any birthday party ideas?
My husband's party was a blast! I ended up going with a "40 and Fabulous" theme. I bought some 40 decorations and put them up (I even found a pretty cute hat for him to wear!) I also made two posters one with highlights of news and information from the year he was born and another one I taped pictures of him from infancy to adulthood. I also made a binder of detailed information of world news, economic info, history, entertainment, etc for every year starting with the year of his birth until 2008. It took me a long time to do it but it was worth the effort. I invited people to the party that he hadn't seen for a while too so he spent time catching up with people and I had people sign a 40th birthday stuffed underwear that I found (hilarious!) It was a good time. Thanks for all of your suggestions and thoughts.
I always thought it would be fun to take him somewhere fun (Napa, Vermont...) for his 40th. As for a party, I personally would stay away from all of the over-the-hill garbage and black balloons, these are depressing and not festive. I had a Friend who sent out invitations with a picture of her husband at 2 years old, naked in the shower. They were pretty funny. Good luck, have fun!
For my husband's 40th, I did a "Flyin' High at Forty" theme with an airplane/jet theme. I hung planes from the ceiling and had Top Gun posters for decorations. I played the music from Top Gun. As a gift, when I sent out the invitations I said "if you don't know what to get him, how about going in on the gift I am getting him." Then I went on to tell about the gift I got him, which was a flight in a WWII plane (he was actually the pilot and got to do all sorts of acrobatics). The company is based out of Centennial Airport and costs anywhere from $600 to as much as you want to spend. I got enough people to contribute that the entire basic flight was covered. It was an awesome party and gift. My husband was so surprised and had a blast! Let me know if you want more details.

If it isn't too late, you could celebrate with 40 days and nights leading up to his big day. It could be small notes, picnics, date night, etc. from you and the kids. Maybe a letter to him about the 40 reasons you love him or that he is a great person.
We did an 80s party for my 40th. Everyone came dressed from the 80s (deep in your closet or thrift store). It was fun to see the variety of styles we forgot about. Played and danced to 80s music and did an 80s trivia game. Also when people arrived we taped a piece of masking tape on their back with some person, event or object from the 80s and they had to go around the room and talk to people to try to figure out what it was. We also had a Wall of Shame where you brought a picture of what you looked like in the 80s. The 80s was the decade of the bad perms for me! Have fun! S.
Over the hill with black balloons and a tombstome cake the whole nine yards. Unless he is senitive and then I would go with a Luau (SP) or sports theme. I know you can get football cake molds. Oriental Trading has a bunch of cheap themes you can try. If he is into hunting you could do a whole theme on that. What are his interests? Go with that.
