Yes. You can have water up until you walk into the facility but not once that test starts.
I know I can not eat anything for 12 hours, but can I drink water?
Yes. You can have water up until you walk into the facility but not once that test starts.
You can and you should. Being dehydrated isn't going to help any.
And remember, fasting means NO gum, mints or hard candy either. I've seen peopled turned away from the clinic because they arrived for a fasting blood test chewing gum.
Yes, only water. Absolutely nothing else. You need to be hydrated for your blood draws and urine samples.
water is fine ... and plenty of it will keep those veins nice and plump, and easier to find and hit. There has been debate over the past couple of years about sugarless gum and mints being ok or not. Each lab/doctor has different rules/opinions on this. I'd suggest not eating or chewing before the test (and especially not during).
Once the test starts you'll probably be asked to stick around the facility, be told not to eat or drink anything besides water, and let someone know immediately if you feel weak, dizzy or disoriented at all. And if you leave the lab area (if it's a multiuse facility) be back 5 minutes early to get checked back in and get drawn on time each time. There's a very short window to get accurate results.
I'm a Phlebotomist and I hope this has helped :) Oh ... and no coffee, even black.
Yess just can't eat bc it messes with your sugar levels. :) goodluck
Sure you can drink water...chew sugarless gum...you don't want to end up sick before you get to the test.(I Just read one of the other responses...call your local Ask a Nurse line to see about that sugarless gum...I would hate to mess it up for you with bad advice!!!!
Yeah, drinking is fine. JUST water though... nothing added. (When I went in another mother had to reschedule because she had added flavoring to her waters...)
I was also told absolutely NO gum (sugarless or otherwise), mints, candy, crackers, anything. Which sucked, because I was HUNGRY!!! LOL! I was also told that it was best to slow down on the water for the hour or two before the test. (Pretty much to drink if you are thirsty, but not to fill your belly...)
