Thank u to all of u that have responded to my Starting Rice Cereal request. I thought of another question. If I mix the rice with some formula should i heat it up? I make her formula in a big container and then fill my bottles for a day. So if i am taking formula from a bottle and mixing this with rice it would be cold.. is it okay to warm it up

What can I do next?

I heat water in a glass in the microwave, and then heat the formula in the water. that way I don't have to worry about heating it too hot or anything.

Hi D.,

Yes it's ok to warm the rice cereal. It's easier on their little tummies that way.

I would mix the formula and cereal and warm it just enough to take the chill off, about room temp.

I used to warm up the rice cereal in the microwave all the time. Would you want to eat cold oatmeal? Ew! Just remember to use a microwave safe dish (not all kids dishes are microwave safe) and the cereal gets really hot really fast, so you may only need to heat it up for like 15 seconds. Stir it when it comes out and stick your finger in the middle to test the heat. I'm sure that's not the most germ-friendly approach, but whatever. Be sure to stir the cereal first, before testing the heat, because you'll find the microwave causes hot spots in the cereal, where one part is scorching and the other part is cool to the touch. It's so bizarre.

of course you want to heat it. i would do so in the microwave 30-45 seconds. dab some on the wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Hope the little one is doing well.

Looks like you've already received your answer : ) I used to warm it up as well. I just wanted to let you know that I went through the same thing. No one tells you what your supposed to do. You never know how much and when. Keep asking questions. It's bringing back memories : ) Good luck!

I also started with a really warm bottle and used a little of that for the cereal. What a fun time this stage is :-)

D.,
I always heated up the formula (a little warmer than normal) and then mixed it into the rice cereal. If the formula is not fairly warm, when mixed in, the cereal won't be warm then either. :-)

I always used formula to mix with the rice cereal for my babies, and yes, I always heated it up a bit...microwave it for a few seconds....you want to take the chill off, not have it be too hot of course. Stir it really well after microwaving, and test it to be sure it is not too hot for baby.

I used to warm my daughter's bottle, then make the cereal with a few ounces from the bottle. Then she would drink the remainder of the bottle.

Good luck, it is so exciting when they start food.
