my 2 year old has suffered from eczema since he was a baby and I am just wondering what others moms have tried that provides relief.If there is a specific suncreen too that would be great. I am currently using a percription strength ointment for flare ups and aquaphor and aveeno baths, I am wondering if I should be making an appointment to see the dermatologist for him or the allergist.
thank you for suggesting the allergist! It turns out he does have several allergies , ragweed, trees, grass etc.. so although he will still have some flare ups there are things that we can to do try and minimize them.
My son had this too. He was mildly allergic to milk products but has outgrown it.
We have the same issue with our daughter. Her dermatologist prescribed Desonide ointment and Aquaphor during the day. We also switched her to Dr. Bronner's castile soap (baby formula, available at Whole Foods) becuase her skin is too sensitive for even the "baby" body washes.
My son had eczema too. We used the same stuff as you but also California Baby bodywash/shampoo sensitive (lavender isn't good for boys reproductive organs )We only use scent free detergent and downy , no dryer sheets.We used Dermasmooth oil (steroid)for a bit . You can get it without a prescription without the steroid too.In regards to suncreeen, they all irritate the skin so try to use it on non open or red skin. My son grew out of it at about 14 months. Sun helps alittle so try to get him in the sun without sungreen in the morning or late afternoon without suncreen to help clear it up a bit.
The bad news is he probably has a food or seasonal allergies too. my pediatriacian told me my son would and I didn't believe her. Sure enough he has seasonal allergies and a severe peanut allergy. you can get a blood test(butterfly not painful)to check him for the 8 most common allergens. Good luck to you :)
My 2 yr. old also has eczema and we use all the same things you use. Her doctor hasn't prescribed anything and said that 2% hydrocortisone is really the only other suggest &/or rx he would really do. I don't like using steroid base remedies so I've just use reg. hydro sparingly. We recently purchased Avveeno's alternative to hydro and I like it. It's called Aveeno Active Naturals Calamine & Pramoxine HCI anti-ictch cream. It's at Target for around 2 or 3 dollars. The eczema has been alright in the summer but winter brings on some bad dry patches. I take the hydro and Aquaphor and mix them together and that usually clears it up in a day or so. We use Banana Boat Baby Tear Free SPF 50. It doesn't seem to cause any irritation and it blends in quickly and it doesn't have a strong perfume which can cause flare ups. We also use dye free,fragrance free & perfume free laundry soap and "free" fabric softener sheets. Kids with eczema usually have other allergies and seasonal allergies so using as many "plain" things as I can replace our scented things with helps.

It would not hurt to see a dermatologist or an allergist. It is one or the other. My Doc told me that my son could have the eczema for life or grow out of it and have allergies either food, seasonal. '
My girlfiends daughter has it real bad and she is allergic to Eggs.

just a thought. our son had eczema real bad since about 2 weeks old. He was alergic to egg and milk and soy. I was nursing and took it all out of my diet and his skin cleared up completely. : )
Hydrocortisone thins the skin and can make it worse over time.
Have you tried homeopathic treatments? You can google for homeopathic remedies and eczema, but it's better to find a homeopathic pediatrician. Homefirst does MSA testing, which is allergy testing using pressure on the thumb (no needles!) and also tests for sensitivities, not just allergies.
