It could be hormonal or endomitriosis (sp??). Your doc may consider putting you on some birth control to regulate your periods.
Hi C.!
Are you on any kind of birthcontrol?I have had problems like this when i was on the depo shot years ago and again when i had mirena. They kept telling me it was just a side effect that will go away but it lasted so long i gave up on the birthcontrol.goodluck!
Something definately isn't right there. If it is heavy and you start to feel weak, I wouldn't wait until Monday. Can you go to Urgent Care?

You could have beinign fibroid tumors. I was done having children at 38 so after that diagnosis, I asked to have a hysterectomy, and have never regretted it since. I have 4 healthy children so I was done with my childbearing years. Good Luck. Discuss it with your physician.
HI C.!
I am the same age as you. I do not know how long you have had the problem. But I have had the problem after my second child was born...about 3 years ago. Where my period last about 2 weeks on average. I will make a long story short. I ended up having a D&C in December 2008 and my doctor said if that did not work, it is probably related to hormones. The option I have left is the pill, IUD, etc...or an ablation. I would still call your doctor. At this time I still have periods from 10-14 days. And I haven't decided if I am going to do anything else or not. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
When I was a teenager it happened to me. It just got out of whack. They put me on birth control pills for a couple of months to regulate it and it worked like a charm. I don't know if it is the same, though, when we are older.
I am a little older than you and am convinced it is perimenopause for me. They did blood work, normal, and ultrasound, and biopsy (to do the edometrial ablation) and found, uterine cists, endometriosis, and a fibroid. Guess what, they are all caused by hormonal imbalances. (I think that the tubal ligation is throwing me into early menopause). Just get it checked out. Don't stress out, even all the things that I have aren't life threatening, no cancer or anything like that. If you jsut have a baby or tubal or something like that, it will mess up your hormones for a while. The bloodwork at your age will probably come back normal. Mine did. But 6 months on a hormone therapy to treat the fibroid, has convinced me that my original assessment was the correct one. I feel like my old self again. Good luck, could be anything, don't stress until you know something for sure.
It sounds hormonal to me but you'd better not just keep bleeding without getting help in stopping it or you'll get anemic. I went thru this and it led to early menopause and so did my daughter but we both had to get medical help to stop the bleeding when it got too bad.
You need to call your Dr. My mom is recently going through this also. She's 55 and has had a regular period for over a month. They're sending her for all kinds of tests and she actually goes in for a colonoscopy on Monday. I don't mean to scare you but you really need to get checked out. So far everything has come out okay, they did tell her that this could be the way her body reacts to menopause.
Hi! Sorry to hear about that... kinda puts a real damper on things, huh? One possibility; I have read that birth control pills that have a low dose of hormones may make you bleed more, also any other hormone imbalance can cause this, or possibly endometriosis. Don't get anxious or worried about it though, your doctor will be the person to correctly diagnose this and if need be, set you on a regimen to correct it~ Oh, and btw, if you took ONE at home pregnancy test, this IS NOT enough to give you an accurate assessment of your pregnancy status. I took 2 at home preg. tests (which were neg.) when in fact I was pregnant w/my second child. All that I am saying is; don't rely on this ONE method to determine your health status, these at-home tests are only tools to give us an idea of what may or may not be going on with our bodies~ not meant to be relied upon. There are too many false results with all at-home tests. You yourself are the best indicator of what is normal and what is not normal with your body. If you go to your doctor and feel that he/she is missing something, get a second opinion. Most conditions/syndromes/diseases, when caught early, have terrific cure rates.
So, good luck with your cycle,no worries... I know it'll all work out!

Same thing happened to me the month before last!!! I was so mad! talk about a visitor outstaying their welcome.
I decided to wait to see if it would happen the next month. That period turned out to last only TWO days! Nice trade up huh? This month I had a normal period.
I have had irregular periods before by only by a few days not an entire week! I have been told before that sometimes your cycle changes for whatever reason and it's just trying to regulate itself. If your diet has changed, have changed birth control methods, or are under stress, etc. These things can all effect your cycle.
I had just stopped taking my pills so that's what i think the problem was.
If you are particularly worried don't hesitate to call your doctor. You never can be too careful when dealing with your health.
Good luck and I hope your visitor leaves soon!
Hi C.,
I too have 2 weeks periods, mine are stemmed from uterine fibroids and endometriosous whic is very painful at times. You might want to call your doctor to have them do an ultra sound on you to see if there are any fibroids. They make you have very painful and extended periods. I get mine every 16 days and bleed for 10 to 14 days. Hope this helps.

I've lived with this most of my life on & off. I was on BC for a lot of years to try and regulate it would work for a while then start again. You didn't say how heavy the bleeding was. I would talk with your Dr. but don't panic about it. There are different things they can try or you can wait to see what next month brings. 2 mo ago I didn't have one (that did panic me but fortunatly I had an appt at the GYN and test was neg) :) and this last month lasted 2 1/2 weeks. We have talked about trying Merena but I haven't decided what way to go. Mine however usually is extremly heavy. However the last was moderate just lasting forever. Like I said... discuss with Dr. and see what his/her thoughts are.
I had this happen where I bled for a month and it ended up being from a polyp on my uterus. Your doc should be able to do an ultrasound to check for this. I had mine surgically removed at an outpatient surgery center and you are in and out the same day. It was no big deal and 99% of then are benign and nothing to worry about, but definitely get it checked out.
