Bread - make bread pudding with that extra bread.
Trash - there's no way we could put out just bags in Chicago...we'd have a rodent party! And otherwise, even if we didn't have critters running around at night, I'd still want to use a can.
Bread. I must have lost my mind several times while grocery shopping because apparently I just kept buying loaves of bread. Whole wheat. I have 4 or 5 loaves in my freezer and I need to make room for some other things. What can I do with so much bread? Any ideas so it doesn't go to waste?
Speaking of waste...my youngest and I were cruising around after dropping of the oldest at preschool. We were waiting for a store to open. So as we were driving I noticed that a lot of people had their trash out and the majority of it was not contained in garbage cans. Do you use cans or do you just put the bags out? We have critters so we have to use cans but even if we didn't I am pretty sure I would still use them.
I have never made bread pudding but I think I will try it. And maybe make some stuffing for supper. Thanks everyone.

In my city, we aren't allowed to put our trash in bins. We have cats in our neighborhood too, so we put it out before my husband goes to work on trashday. It still gets picked at, but we put immonia in it. The cats hate it so they'll pick at the bag but then get a whiff and run away.
As for the bread, I always just go feed the ducks at the lake with it.
Re: trash.
In Seattle, we pay for trash service based on the amount of trash we put out. There are three sizes of cans, none of them huge. The lids have to go on all the way, or you're charged extra. I think you can put extra trash out in a bag, but you're charged for it. And the raccoons will get into it.
The nice thing is that the recycle and lawn waste bins are huge, so the trash cans can be small. A lot of stuff can be recycled, and all food scraps can go in the lawn waste.
Do you use breadcrumbs often? I pulse bread in the food processor and make bread crumbs. But them in a ziplock, and freeze them. They take up very little room.
As far as the trash. Unless it's recycling, we just stick bags out. We don't have any critters, but dogs and cats. We've never had a problem with them getting into the bags.
Bread
Grilled cheese - we like with tomato soup
French toast
homemade crutons?
We eat almost 2 loaves per week normal so it wouldn't take us that long especially if I pushed some yummy toasted sandwiches for dinner a few nights :)
Trash
Always in a container. Our container is provided by our trash picker upper company.
TRASH~ We have the choice of a variety of trash companies, but all give us a few options of the size of the big cans with wheels on one side, and thats where all your trash goes into. We have a similar can for the citys recycle program (it goes out every other week). I actually just saw a TV commercial for Menards or similar with trash cans and thought "Who buys those around here anymore??"
BREAD~ I would burn thru that easily with Frech toast (make extra and use it for quick breakfasts all week...just pop them in the toaster!). Grilled cheese. Just plain old sandwiches for dinner can burn thru a loaf easy!
Love the title of your post!
Bread pudding is what I would do.
In our city they provide those gigantic garbage cans with the wheels on one side & the handle on the other, 1 for trash & another for recycling so yes, we use cans.
Make bread crumbs or find some hungry ducks? :)
We have our trash in cans all week, and remove the bags and put them at the end of the driveway on the morning of trash day.
Recyclables go in a provided container.
Betty Crocker Bread Pudding (recipe that's been used in my family for 50+ years- copied from my Gma's cookbook, dated 1950!):
Heat to scalding: 2 cups milk
Pour over: 4 cups coarse bread crumbs
Cool & add: 1/4 c butter, melted 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten 1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c raisins 1 tsp cinnamon &/or nutmeg
Pour into buttered 1 1/2qt casserole. Bake 40-45min at 350...until knife comes out clean. Serve warm, with or w/out sauce. (we cheat & use instant lemon pudding for the sauce...it's yummy & quick.)
**I usually double this recipe & bake it in a 9x13 pan.
**I rarely make it this version....I'm always adding fresh chopped apple or pear, dried cranberries, etc.
**a Jack Daniels sauce is absolutely yum on it! I've also been known to do the lemon sauce/pudding...but add Jack in with the 2c milk!
Enjoy!
EDIT: more for the bread....make meatloaf. Cut it into squares, soak it in Italian dressing, bake into croutons. Make turkey or chicken dressing, loaded with vegies.....& you have an instant meal!
Oh...how I miss bread. If I could eat it, and had that much...well, french toast, for sure, and I'd invite some people over for it. Or grilled cheese with tomato soup. Feeding a group of people either of those can go through a loaf or two. Have fun!
1) french toast. bread crumbs, croutons, bread pudding
2) we are not allowed to put trash cans out. Our city requires plastic trash bags only. So, we (husband, not me) have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to put it out right before trash man comes, otherwise neighbors cat scatters it everywhere.
cube it and freeze it.........save it for croutons for salad, soup. Save it to grind and make bread crumbs. Thanksgiving stuffing. I always take my pumpkins from halloween and make pumpkin bread, i freeze it and do these exact things.
I have 2 big black trash cans and 1 green recycling can. I dont know what id do if i had to just put out bags, i live near woods and racoons are everywhere.
make bread pudding-then after its done n cooled off-cut into individual servings wrap n put in freezer for later treats
