Hello, So I took 2 pregnancy tests and I had a very light positive line. I took 2 other pregnancy tests to confirm the positive result and now they are negative. I’m also still 4 days late on my period. I’m going to make an appointment with the doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime does anyone have any answers? My husband and I have been trying to conceive. Could I be miscarrying? Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to my family doctor and took a blood pregnancy test and I found out this morning that it was negative. My next question is where is my period? I’m trying to get an appointment with my OBGYN and just my luck that they were having trouble with their phones. Any other ideas what could be going on? I have been having horrible lower back pain. The NP at my family doc’s seemed puzzled. I’m at my wits end!!!! Thanks for listening….

It does sound like a chemical pregnancy to me...your doctor can measure your chemical levels to tell for sure though...

What time did you take the second set of tests? You're probably pregnant, but your hormone level evens out after a point. Good luck.

Different tests do have different sensitivity rates, so if you used different brands for the different tests, that could give the positive then negative result for a very early pregnancy. However, it could also be a very early miscarriage (sorry to have to say that, but it is true). If you wait 24 hours, you should be able to tell the difference. If the pregnancy is ok, your hormones will double in 24 hours, and by tomorrow you should see a much stronger positive line. If, by tomorrow, the test is still negative, it is probably what's called a chemical pregnancy. Obviously your doctor will be able to tell you for sure. I'm hoping for a good result for you.

It could have been a chemical pregnancy, but could also be the test. I always use the kind with the words pregnant or not pregnant on it, so I don't have to wonder. Your doctor can run a blood test to see for sure.

Maybe the hormone levels are still low. Did you use the same brand for all the tests? If not, maybe the 1st 2 are just more sensitive than the 2nd 2. You could try buying the kind of pregnancy test that says it can get results before you even miss your period and see what happens. I've heard of false negatives, but never false positives.
Good Luck !! :)

I agree with Linda P. I have heard that you will not get a false positive! If they were very faint though, I could see how that might be misleading! It was very clear for me when I got pregnant! Take the pregnancy test that says pregnant/not pregnant! Good Luck!!
