I would try a pacifier and see if he just wants to suck. Feed him less more often. If he is spitting up a lot he is taking in too much formula at one time. Again, give him less and more often.
my son seems like he is constantly eating. He has to be eating at least 40 oz a day. Is this normal? And any suggestions.

Every baby is different. Just go with your baby's cues. If he is formula fed they usually eat less because it takes longer for the body to break down the artificial food. Breastmilk is natural and easily digested so it goes through the body faster.
Yes it's normal at that age.
K.,
Congratulations on your baby~ Yes, babies eat at least 32oz a day if not more. I wouldn't worry as long as your baby is happy and wanting to eat more, feed on demand. He will regulate how much food he wants. Its great that you have such a good eater!

WOW. Some of the responses you received seem crazy to me! I doubt its anything to worry about. Ask your doctor, but my son did the same thing. He has now slowed down to about 30 to 35 ounces a day at 3 months old. And his ounces were formula fed. I have heard babies who eat breast milk eat more. Good luck with your son. And try not to listen to the crazies on here!

If your little one is eating 40oz a day. That is alot. What were you hungry for when you were carring him before you had him. When my daughter was expecting her son. She was hungry for a banana split all the time. So when he was born he was always hungry, so my mother(his great-grandmother) gave him a very small taste of a banana split Ice Cream and that took care of his being hungry all the time. You might try giving your baby a very small taste of what you were hungry for. It is and old fashion Idea but it works, most of the time. It did for my grandson. Hope this helps. L.
Dear K.,
I breast fed almost exclusively up to 8 months, since I also pumped we were able to see how much he ate when daddy fed him from the frozen expressed milk storage. my son wouldn't keep anything down the first two weeks after birth, so we mixed formula in my pumped milk to get it to be "heavier" and that "cured" him after two more weeks and then we went back to just breast milk and seemed he couldn't get enough just like your son. My son ate about the same amount = so I say it is normal. My son is now 2 1/2 and is fine. He was off the charts on height and weight, but the dr said he was fine as long as he was hungry to let him eat, his body knew what it needed. Even if he is "overweight" remember that baby fat is there for a reason, it isn't like he is posing for vogue magazine! There was a suggestion about eating to soothe the reflux pain, check that out w/ your dr.
Good LUck

I second what everyone else has said!
Hi K.,
This is happening to a lot of our children today because they are not getting enough nutrients from the foods today because the soil in North America are depleted and have been for 60 plus years.
I put my granddaugter on a wholefood supplements since she was 2 days old and I see a difference when she does not supplement. She is 7 years old today.
If you are interested in learning more email me and I will share more info.
Have a Happy New Year.

Totally normal! At two months old your son is growing really fast but his stomach is still tiny. Because the stomach can hold so little it has to work around the clock to deliver all the calories he needs and it seems like you never stop feeding him! From what I understand, if you follow hunger cues, it is impossible to overfeed at this age.
Congrats on your new bundle of joy. If he is keeping it all down and not spitting or throwing it up and not screaming a lot then don't worry about it. I found out at my son's 4 month check up a few months back that he has acid reflex as he was eating non stop since he was 2 months old and the dr asked me a few questions and we realized he was eating so much to sooth himself fromthe pain he was in. My older son was a big baby at birth and was eating 5oz at 2 months and keeping it all down. He was up to 8oz at 5 months.
good luck and enjoy this time it goes by SO FAST
SAHM/Zombie 39 with a super funny acutive 3yr son and a 6 month old son who if full of smiles and bubbles and FINALLY sleeping thru the night. YEAH!
K., 40 oz is likely too much for a 2 month old, even if he is keeping it all down. It is probable that he is pacifying himself with the bottle (I assume you mean 40 oz. of formula). My little one did the same, put weight on at an alarming rate, and we had to back her off :) She was eating tons every 2 hours. Maybe try a pacifier? My daughter really didn't take to them but you will likely need to try some other options.
Check out this suggested feeding amount by Similac and I would definitely talk to your pediatrician if you are concerned:

Good luck and congrats on your son!
