My sister did duct tape too! I thought she was the only one! She would get two piece Pj's and then run duct tape around the tummy so they were stuck together and her daughter couldn't get them off!
We recently visited my (almost) 2-year old nephew on a trip to Florida. My nephew is a master at taking off his clothes and his diaper and my sister-in-law has been having problems with him doing this for months. Well, my 2-year-old son saw him do this once and now, more times than not, when I go in his room to get him in the morning or after a nap, he is totally naked and has peed in his crib. I always put a onesie on him and I've tried different types of clothing but he seems to be able to get everythig off. He just turned 2 a couple weeks ago and is showing signs of being ready to potty train so we have been working on it but there are still times he's so busy that he'll tell me he doesn't have a dirty diaper when he does. I guess my question is, how can I keep his clothes on or, at least, his diaper on so I'm not constantly having to strip his bed and wash everything. Any advice related to this is welcome. Thanks.

Oh, boy! Maybe this will make you feel better: Through my mother's of twins club, I've heard of kids getting the diapers off and spreading feces on their crib and walls, and also of one who did this around the house! Yuck! If there's any way you can get him to pee before his nap, an empty bladder could help, esp. since you've been working on potty training. I've heard of running hands or wrists under warm water to invoke the sensation of having to pee. Do that first.
If all else fails, try putting it on backwards. If he still figures out how to take it off, here's a tried and true method ... ready? ... wait for it ... use duct tape. I kid you not. Still doesn't work? Use duct tape AND put it on backwards.
Good luck! I hope this helps.
Have you tried putting footie pajamas on him backwards, so he can't reach the zipper in the back? You just have to make sure they are long enough for the leg to twist back forwards so the feet fit properly.
Get footie pajamas and put them on backwards. You can twist the feet around so he can walk, and zip them up the back. If you have to you can pin them at the top of the zipper with a safety pin, but usually just zipping them up backwards is enough. You can also put overalls on backwards after crisscrossing the straps so he can't slide them off his shoulders.
Duck/Duct tape is the only thing that everworked with my Houdini twins!!! Everything else they could get out of. And now their 2 year old sister is following in their footsteps and the bacwards PJ don't work for her either, she gets out of them so back to the good old tape, almost all the way around the diapper.
Good luck
Sounds familiar!! My son is 26 months old and used to do it quite often before (not on a regular basis, but randomly). I just put pants on him and a pull up (he has been potty training as well), he kind of just out grew it. I guess though if he hear him still awake (before he actually naps) make sure to keep an eye on him and instead of letting him roll around and play in his crib when he wkaes up, make sure you grab him so he doesnt have the chance to pull off his diaper.
Or worst case, just have to keep stripping the bed, I know its a pain (taking the bumper off and all that), but my son did stop doing it. he sleeps in a twin bed now and we havent had any issues in awhile, but we did have two really bad incidents before with dirty diapers, so be glad its just pee!!!
Good Luck.....gotta love little boys an dthe crazy things they do and drive us crazy!!!
I bought a sleep sack with legs from One Step Ahead that has the zipper in the back. Stupid me forgot to put it on my 20 month old one day and she painted with poop --disgusting!
Really work the potty training. My daughter is trained save for night, at 22 months. He is ready.
buy feeti pajamas one size too big.. put them on backwards sothe zipper is in theback.. he shouldnt be able to unzip them..
if he can still unzip them use a safety pin to secure the zipper at the top..
the pajamas on backwards will have a twist in the leg.. but it shouldnt botther your child..
I used to babysit for twin boys that did poop painting. sothe mom did ths with her kids.. in the summer months she cut off the sleeves and legs but she had to keep them in feetie pajams even in the summer or they would make huge messes..
This problem started in our house more than 6 months ago (2-1/2 yo b/g twins). I tried the duct tape but the first time extended a little off the diaper and got caught on my daughter's skin I stopped immediately.
The best soluntion for us is to put them down in footed PJs with the zipper in the back. It takes a few tries to figure out how to get their feet in correctly - just put the feet in like normal and the twist will be in the rest of the legs. At first I used backward PJs for naps and bedtime - now I only seem to need them at bedtime.
My kids now think this is the 'right' way to put on PJs. Our only occassional trouble with the backward PJs is that one will unzip the other if they wake up early and have time to fool around but otherwise it works perfectly!
