2 1/2 Yr Old Won't Eat Chewable Vitamin

My son is a picky eater, but he has a good appetite. He doesn't eat vegetables (we're working on it!) but does love fruit. His pedi gave us a prescription for liquid vitamin, and it is the nastiest stuff ever! He won't take it and gags and vomits when I force it down. I bought chewables, but he won't eat them either (wierd child won't eat candy yet lol). Last time I tried the liquid I asked the pharmacy if they could flavor the liquid and he said "If the child is 2 1/2, he should be eating the chewable". Does anyone else have this problem? I've tried grinding it up into applesauce, etc. and you can smell the vitamin and he won't touch it. I'm at a loss. If he would eat some veggies, I wouldn't push the vitamin, but that's still it's own battle.

Try the Gummie type, they are just like fruit snacks. I used them for my son and I would mix it in with a few fruit snacks and he never knew the difference. It got to the point shortly after that I could just had him the vit. and he thought he was getting a treat.

You should ask your doctor if they are really necessary.

My doctor told me she specifically recommends against vitamins until kids are 4 years old.

If your child is eating a healthy, balanced diet that contains fruit, chances are he's not nutritionally deprived.

Keep a food diary of what (and how much) he eats over the week and show it to your doctor or a nutritionist. I think you'll be surprised at how many vitamins he's getting already.

My friend has the same issue, her pedi recommended giving her son Pediasure. She mixes it with his milk and it has the same vitamin count. Hope that helps!

He is probably getting enough nutrition from what he currently eats, you probably don't need to be giving him add'l vitamins each day unless the doctor insists on it or if you son is deficient in nutrients in anyway - and the doc should be telling you if this is the case. Good luck!!

My daughter is the same way. She won't eat the vitamin. What I do is mash it up and put it into her juice. She always seems to take it with out noticing. The Flinstone type break up the easiest and desolve in the juice, without the bad taste. I know she should only get 1/2 the vitamin, but mashing it up I tend to use the whole thing to make sure she get's enough. My other kids just like the shapes, and take them with no fuss. Hope this helps.

check out Whole Food Market. they have good vitamins in liquid or chewable. my son (2 yrs) doesnt really like vitamins. i used always give him natural liquid in berry flavor. he like it until he doesnt want take it anymore. i gave him natural gummie vitamins but it is not really good for kids's teeth because sugar stick to teeth. dentist hate that. i bought VeganLife chewable vitamins for my son on berry flavor and he likes it. it is tooth friendly. there are some days when my son doesnt want vitamins. i would crush the vitamins into powder and put it in orange juice. it works.
Whole Food Market have good natural vitamins. check it out. natural/organic is always the best.

Market America has a wonderful liquid vitamin - and the most effective, from what I understand. I am not a distributor, nor do I have anything to gain. But if you'd be interested in checking it out, I can hook you up with my friend.

Her kids love them! And they get to shake them up too, which makes it fun!

You can have him try the gummi versions. They come in Gummi Bears Gummi Vites, Spider Man, Flintstones, etc. My girls won't eat the chewables but they love the gummi versions.

I don't blame him, liquid vitamins are gross. My kids never liked vitamins either so I got really creative. I bought the V8 juices that have vegetables in them but taste like fruit. They are naturally lower in sugar too! I pureed vegetables and mixed them into other foods like mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, soups, etc. Not all of the vitamins we need come from vegetables either, look at the bottles of vitamins, see what they contain and then spend a little time on line looking up what foods those vitamins are in, then try introducing them. Cheese sauce makes vegetables more appealing, and includes calcium and vitamin D. Healthy cereals are often vitamin fortified as well. My kids are good eaters now, healthy and strong. If he's a good eater now, just try slowly introducing new and different things and give him time to adjust. If you stress over the vitamins you'll stress him out and it's not really worth the battle. Just concentrate on healthy eating, it's a lifetime good habit you'll want him to have!
Good luck!

There is a really great product that's not a vitamin, but is just powdered produce (fresh raw fruits and vegetables which have been juiced and dried). It comes in a capsule (which you can open and sprinkle into some juice or applesauce, or something, and it also comes in a chewable and a gummie. The chewables are good, and they don't have that awful "vitamin" flavor or smell, which all of my children hated. The gummies are really good! I don't know who in our family gets more excited when the gummies get here, the kids or me! It's called Juice Plus, and I am a distributor, but I am not going to give you my website because I think that would be inappropriate. I'm going to just give you the generic website, which is www.JuicePlus.com. You can learn more about it on that site, but the thing I like best is that it's real food. Also, you could go onto Dr. Sears's website (www.askDrSears.com) and click on "family nutrition," and he'll tell you why his family uses Juice Plus, and why that's what he uses in the Sears Family Practice. Another incredible recommendation comes from Dr. David Katz, the Director of the Prevention Research Center at Yale University (and also the nutrition columnist for Oprah's magazine). His family eats Juice Plus, and Yale is now doing a study on it, as well (see www.JuicePlus.com for other studies). My family has been eating it for 4 and a half years now because I figured the single best thing I could do for my family's health was to make sure we all got more fruits and veggies in our diet (even those of us who are vegetarians).

There are a lot of good products out there. I noticed that a couple of people told you about Market America's vitamins. They do make a really good vitamin product. I have a few friends who are Market America distributors, and I know a lot about their products. If I were going to give my family a vitamin of any kind, I would probably choose Market America's. The only reason we don't use it is that we believe that if we're going to supplement our family's diets, we prefer to supplement with the whole real food that the vitamins come from in the first place.

I know it can be really confusing to try to decide what to give your family. Just go with what makes the most sense to you. Good luck!

My son hates almost all the commercial chewable vitamins, but the gummies they have at Wal-Mart smell and taste good - not sure of the brand, but there is a smiling soccer ball on the label. -S. H.

Do not worry about it. Fruit and meat have a lot of great vitamins and minerals that are in veggies. To get veggies into him, you could buy the veggie pastas, they are good and taste like pasta, not veggies. If he is healthy, do not stress over it. Even cereal is enriched now with vitamins/minerals.

Hi there - I would try Arbonne's Kids Hybrids Vitamin Fruit Punch. I am an Area Manager and this is not the reason I am suggesting it. My 4 year old son is extremely picky and will not eat anything he doesn't like. Vitamin's were a concern because he would not take them and I was getting nervous that he wasn't getting all the nutrients he needed. When I introduced him to Arbonne "Hybrids" he loved it. I didn't tell him it was vitamin supplements - just "Hybrids" and ever since then - at lunch he asks for his Arbonne Hybrids. Worked like a charm and he is getting all the nutrients and vitamins he needs each day.

I would be happy to send you some free samples to try. No obligation just to let you test drive them on your children to see if they like them. If they do - I would be willing to give you 15% off the retail price with no shipping if you are within Massachusetts.

Let me know by emailing me at ____@____.com or call at ###-###-####. You can learn all about them at www.PureSwissSkincare4u.myarbonne.com.

Warmly,
