2 1/2 Yr Old Taking off Pj's at Nap Time and Bedtime and Going on the Floor

Hi moms, my 2 1/2 yr old is doing great potty training during the day. But, at naps and bedtime, he just keeps getting naked and using the floor as his toilet. I take him multiple times to the potty before bed, but he still does this. I think he is holding it on purpose and doing it in his room (some sort of control issue?) I have read about the pjs' that they supposedly can't take off but have held off ordering them. I'd rather figure out how to break this behavior since, in a few months, he may be ready to wear regular pjs (so he can use the potty himself) - or maybe I am just really optimistic? Any advice is appreciated!

What can I do next?

Have you told him he can go to the bathroom if he has to go? Probably a dumb question but figured I would ask. Otherwise I'd put a toliet in there. If that doesn't work, it'd be a diaper and zippered pajamas put on backwards at my house for nap time!

How about a potty in his room. You can try one piece jammies that zip up and put the on backwards. I've heard moms doing that. Is he using diapers at night? Many moms have been known to duct tape diapers on. If he can hold it and has the time to undress and then pee then he would have enough time to come to you to tell you to rip his diaper off so he can potty. Try offering a Skittle or M&M as a treat for using the potty in the morning instead of the floor and remind him how he does not get one when he messes on the floor. Yes, it's a control issue but not a rebellious thing. It's not against you it's for him so keep that in mind.

Good luck!

Our twin grandsons did the take PJ's off and also take clothes off in the daytime thing. My daughter had to duct tap the diaper on and put the PJ's on backwards, clothes on backwards in the day or really fixed so not to get them off but sometimes they still managed. I'm happy to say that now they don't do it so there is hope. They did not do the potty on the floor, but have, so I can tell you to be firm and don't give up but they will outgrow it. You could do what some suggested with a potty in the room at night but you never know how that will go either. You might try taking him later in the night like before you go to bed and see if he will use the potty then. Don't give him liquid soon before bedtime and just keep at it.

Could you put a potty chair in his room and see if he would use that? Maybe he wants some privacy and that is the only way he knows how to get it. Good luck and hope you get some ideas that will work for you!
