For short term (immediate) I would try prunes, or prune juice. To help get his digestive system back in order, give him probiotics daily.
I 'm pretty sure my 2 1/2 year old is contipated as he has always been regular and I haven't seen a bowel movement for a few days. What to do? What can I give him to eat?

Try prune juice. That should solve the problem.
Avoid rice and bananas for a little bit.
Good luck
prune juice always helped my daughter, just be careful about how much or you could have the opposite problem. We learned that the hard way.
C - cherries (dried are good too)
R - raisins
A - apricots
P - dried prunes
(:
My youngest has issues with constipation. Our ped told us he needs juice daily. We also give him olives regularly b/c the olive oil really helps!
i give my son orange juice and that usally does the trick!
Avoid rice and apples so juice yes, apple juice, no. If he hasn't pooped in several days try adding Benefiber to his food or drink, but call a doctor soon. At that age they can stretch out their intestine into a pouch that causes other problems. Especially if he's been regular just call and see what they advise. Good Luck!
I give mine pears with skin, oranges, yogurt, lots of water, juices with sugar help, and even the baby prunes if your child will take them. My 4 year old will eat baby food prunes when he is constipated and it usually helps. My 2 year old has been constipated since birth and now he is on miralax every other day. That really helps, but I would ask your pediatrician first. I'm sure food is the natural choice, but for my youngest, he needs the extra help.
White grape juice or pear juice always worked for my son. Good luck!
Raisins, orange slices, grapes, and juices.
I would follow Bug's advice 100%. And place a call to his pediatrician too just to let them know and find out when they would want to see him if he doesn't have a bm today.
Here is some helpful information:

Hope he feels better soon :)
Popcorn! Oranges! Watermelon! Corn on the Cob!
Prunes. Most kids like to eat them almost as much as candy. Get the ones that don't have pits in them and let him eat two or three. Don't let him eat many more than that, or you'll start seeing the opposite problem!
I would try prunes or prune juice first and of course water. My daughter has chronic constipation and our Ped. recommended Miralax once a day. It is just a stool softener and will allow your child to pass stool more easily. It is safe for everyday use if needed.
Avoid Bananas and Rice and anything else starchy. Prunes and Papaya seem to help. Stick with as natural remedies as possible. Lots of lukewarm water will also help with the digestive system. Hope this helps.
prunes! whenever my son gets constipated, i give him the pureed prunes by Gerber and my son eats it up (he likes the taste) and the, I kid you not, within 30 min, he poops. And it's usually a motherload since he's been constipated for a couple of days. The first time it happened, my husband and I thought that it was a coincidence b/c we thought, how can prunes go through the digestive system that fast? But after it happened every single time we had to use it (about 5 times), we're convinced. Try it! Natural and much better than Metamucil or other stuff that might just make your little guy gassy.
Ahhh, poor little guy :(
I'd give him apple juice, pureed prunes and encourage him to drink lots of water on a regular basis. Stay away from starchy foods for now. Also make sure he's getting plenty of exercise and running around every day. (I say this because I know a mom who sits her toddler in front of the TV all day and can't understand why she is always constipated.)
I hope he feels better soon : )
FRUIT!!! FIBER!!! WATER!!!! (Sorry for yelling, but they are all important to help and prevent constipation.)
I would make a smoothie with spinach, brocolli, 1 cerlery stalk an apple or apple juice with a banna and add honey if it is not sweet enough.
I just realized you said 2 1/2 I would call his doctor first.
Metamucil Clear and Natural (all natural)
Probiotics has cured my daughter's chronic constipation!! Whole foods sells children's daily probiotics in chewable form in their cold case in the vitamin aisle.
Probiotics always clears out my little guys. When they are young i could break open a capsule of acidophulus and pour about half the capsule into their bottles. Now they're older they love the flavored YoBaby yogurts with probiotics in them. Good luck!
I'm wondering what his vegetable intake is like and if he is drinking enough fluids. Often times constipation at that age is due in part to the continual changes in digestive system. Additional vegetables and fruits and fluids help.
sometimes apple juice will get things moving
1/3 apple juice, 1/3 prune juice and 1/3 water, twice a day. And talk with your ped and ask about Mira lax, and suppositories.
