I think my baby has a bladder infection and so I'm going to call her doctor in the morning, but I was wondering if any of you moms have ever had to deal with this. How do they test the urine to see if she does? Its not like she can pee in a cup like we do as grown ups. I just want to know what to expect so that I can prepare her, can they test her diaper? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Being a nurse and a mother, I know the whole just put a catheter in to get a urine sample sounds horrible and I did not want to do that when my daughter who was also about 18 months when she got a bladder infection. So, if possible you should call the office today and see if you can get a urine bag that has adhesive around the top to adhere to her vulva to catch the urine when she goes (this will all be inside her diaper). You will also need a sterile specimen cup to transfer the urine into to bring to the lab for testing. You will need to make sure she is cleaned properly down there before putting the bag on. Hopefully the doctors and nurses will work with you on this one and let you do it this way instead of the catheter, but if not the catheter should be quick, it's just more traumatic for the little ones :(

If they need to get a urine sample, they can put a catheter in her and pull it directly from her that way. It's a rather quick proceedure to have done.

Little girls can and do get bladder infections. You are wise to take her to the doctor to check it out. Other more serious problems can result if it goes untreated.

My DD had a catheter once to test for a UTI. It was quick and not as bad as they could be. Hang in there Mama!
