Went to the pediatrician yesterday; he ran a battery of blood tests and some kind of blood culture and swabs in the mouth (won't have results back until next week). Gave us Tamiflu saying likely it's flu, which I really didn't want to give her but he advised because of her age, which makes her gag. She doesn't like drinking fluids but we try and give her as much. Really active during the days except when fever runs higher when napping and in evening, very restless. Doesn't go down easily with tylenol or ibuprofen. But during the day like right now she's in a good mood. Nights are torture. Please, anyone experience anything like this???

So What Happened?

It is roseola. Her fever went down yesterday and disappeared and she woke up this morning with a rash all over her body that is not itching but she's in a good mood. I had asked the pediatrician repeatedly if it is roseola and he said no.

My five year old had something very similar a few weeks ago...I would think he was getting better every morning because he'd seem fine in the AM, low or no fever and then 3p it'd hit all over again. He'd feel badly again, fever would come back, he'd end up just going to sleep. It lasted about five days...Just another random virus...will be really happy when cold and flu season ends!

Good luck!

Anyone that ever had a baby! It's hard-but it should run it's course-each day getting a little better-you just have to try and treat the symptoms and keep her a comfortable as possible. Did she have a flu shot? If not-you might want to consider this in the fall-it really does help.

I'd keep a close eye on this and if she's still running a fever at day 5, take her to the er. Watch for febrile seizures also - if her fever spikes it's not uncommon for that to happen. And she's at the prime age for that. If it happens, put her on her side and rub her back to encourage normal breathing. Be sure there's nothing in her mouth. And call the doctor on call immediately. If she's having any trouble breathing, just call 911.

Does she have any other flu symptoms? My son had a high fever for 5 days and then developed a rash. When I took him in before the rash the dr. thought it was roseola and she was correct. The fever was worse at night. I just tried to keep him as cool and comfortable as I could.

Fevers are usually higher at night. I know the Tamiflu is horrible, if she is not drinking, it could be a sore throat. Pedialyte doesn't taste much better. I don't know how well it would freeze. Try mixing some juice with the Tamiflu dose and freezing it. Popsicle might be a nice treat. Fevers are our body's natural way of fighting off the "yucky stuff." Keep an eye on the fever; 103 or over should be taken just a bit more seriously. Like Robin said, just treat the symptoms for now. If you feel like she is getting worse, lethargic and not playing at all, I would give the Pedi another call.

Hi, sounds like tonsilitis to me. She needs antibiotics, normally a very high fever for 3-5 days if it is tonsilitis. Good luck. M.
