My daughter is 13 months old almost 14 months. I am out of town right now and let my mom take my daughter for a few weeks. But the past month she wont leave her diaper on for anything in the world. Its a big fight that I dont think is worth fighting over. My mom says that she wont keep her diaper on so she goes around naked and when she has to potty or poop she goes over to the wood floor and does her business. This doesnt bother my mother but it will bother me when I go back to get her next week. I bought a potty and asked my mom to try it with her. I just dont know if its too early to start training her. She knows what a toilet is and she isnt scared of them and goes in the bathroom when she wants her diaper off. I dont know how to train her. Do they make panties that small... and how do I start training her.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone!!!! My daughter is pooping on the toilet now. We cant time right when she has to potty but she always makes these grunts when she has to poop so we rush her to her potty! She is doing good for a first try!

Ok, about taking off diaper maybe its time for pull ups? if that does not work putting pants or clothing over to help make taking the diaper off harder. My mom told me once when a child takes of thier diaper that it is time to start sitting on the potty. she has learned to go on the floor and maybe start having mom take her to potty first thing when she wakes, after breakfast, luch, dinner, and about 30 minutes after a sipppe, girls ted to learn faster for some reason...take heart its not easy when your not there

My mother had us potty trained by 1 years old. My brother was 10 months. My mom set an alarm clock every two hours (a helpful reminder for her to make sure that she took us).

There are various viewpoints on when the appropriate age is and how to do it. There are several books out there, even some that are age appropriate that you read to them. Yes, they have underwear that small.

I don't see why you couldn't try, she seems like she might be smart enough to catch on. You might want to change her to a pull-ups and let her know that if she can show you she's a big girl by going to the potty (and not on the floor), then you'll get her big girl ones. You might even buy some to show her what she can get. Children that age are smarter that we give them credit for.

I had my son intially potty trianed at 13 months, then his father left the household when he was about 18 months old and I put him back into pull-ups for about 4-5 months (the adjustment was stressful for us all). Don't forget they may occassionally have accidents along the way when playing become more important than going to the restroom or if they are sick.

Good Luck.

Both of my older kids went through that phase (now I can look back and laugh, but at the time it was SOOO FRUSTRATING). Anyway, I just put them in things like overalls and one piece outfits which were more difficult to take off. My daughter did potty train shortly after, but my son is still not completely trained (3 years old). I have also heard of people using tape to keep the diapers on, but never resorted to that myself. Good luck.
