Hi Moms,
My daughter will be 1 on Saturday.
I am introducing milk to her and for the last 3 days she has been spitting it out. I am putting the milk in her sippy cups that she has been drinking water out of for months.
She has only been breastfed until now and I am getting ready to start weaning. I was hoping that she would love milk like my son did!
for now I am just planning on giving her the milk everyday and hoping that she will get used to it and like it.
I am wondering if any of you had this little problem when you introduced milk to your kids and if they eventually liked it?

Thank you!
p.s. I am not going to give her a bottle, she does great with a sipppy cup. I have also tried the milk warm and cold.

What can I do next?

My daughter didn't like milk at first. What I did was I would put about a cup of milk and one small banana in the blender to make "banana milk". My daughter loved it! She wouldn't drink much, but it was a start. Then I slowly decreased the amount of banana until she was drinking just milk (and lots of of it!). Worked well for us and it's healthy! :) Good Luck!

Thankfully, milk is not the only source of dairy in the world. Otherwise, people like my sister and Godson would be in trouble!!

Like one other poster mentioned there are other sources of calcium, like yougurt and cheese. I agree with you on continuing with introducing it to her, and let her be ready when she's ready. I did chocolate milk with my son to shake it up and he loved it!

Good Luck!

I bf for 18 months and tried to incorporate milk in the very slow weaning process. She never liked it; she's two and just doesn't like it. She gets calcium in all sorts of other ways, cheese, cottage cheese, broccoli, spinach,(she doesn't like yogurt but that's suggestion.) My dtr drinks a lot of water. Just had her tested at two year appt and all levels are great. Milk just isn't a must. Hope that alleviates some anxiety about this transition. --Jen

Add a little bit of Ovaltine to her milk. I did that with my son and he loved it.

You've already gotten super advice here but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in since I just went thru it! My son is one year and hated cow's milk! I thought I'd be buying formula forever. I gradually mixed unequal parts of formula and cow's milk so that he wouldn't notice the change all that much. It happened over several weeks so give it some time - it'll happen! I would recommend not warming it tho - just an extra step that really isn't necessary. You may try adding a bit of water so that it is a thinner texture. It's great news that she'll drink form a sippy - we're working on that!

I agree with mixing the two together (breast milk and cow's milk). My daughter didn't like cow's milk at first either, but she started drinking it when we mixed it with my breastmilk, and warmed it up for her. It only took a few days and now she's fine with cow's milk warm or cold.

That's great that she'll take it out of a sippy cup. My daughter will still only drink milk out of a bottle and water out of a sippy cup. She likes to walk around with the nipple between her teeth!

Remember that cows milk isn't the only option. You can try goats milk, which is more like human milk. There is also soy, rice, and oat milk. My oldest son loved oat milk and drank that for a couple of years before switching to cows milk.

You may look at what kind/brand of milk you are giving her. I am a milk drinker, and organic milk (Horizon) is SO much better tasting than non-organic.
I am fortunate enough to have a dairy (in the city) near my home, and I buy raw milk from them for my son.

milk...once i learned more about it, my family stopped drinking it. We receive our calcium and vitamin D from other sources.

An intersting site I found, researched and agreed with is http://www.strongbones.org/

Your daughter knows her body doesn't want it. Trust her.
